In 1858 #OnThisDate, Giles Wheeler Ford of Olympia, Washington Territory, posted this ad for the first time in the local Pioneer and Democrat newspaper. Just two years later, he drifted away from photography as a full-time occupation. Read more about him in chapter 2 of my book, Artistic and Life-Like: Photography in Washington, 1850-1900.
