The September issue of Warships IFR magazine contains my article on HMCS Margaret Brooke’s deployment to the southern hemisphere earlier this year, providing my thoughts on the operational and scientific benefits that come from the RCN operating so far outside Canada’s territorial waters and own polar region.
Regrettably, I didn’t get to tag along this time.

Halifax International Fleet Week ended on a high note with a sailpast of ships yesterday. Crowds lined the waterfront on both sides from Fairview all the way south. A great day! #hfxfleetweek #warshipphotography #warshipporn #WarshipsIFR #shipphotography

The March 2023 issue of #WarshipsIFR magazine is now on the shelf at #AtlanticNews in Halifax, with the fourth (and final) part of my piece on being embedded in #HMCSMargaretBrooke during the #RoyalCanadianNavy-led #OpNanook22. Iain Ballantyne was kind enough to put one of my images, of the ships leaving Saglek Fjord in Labrador, on the cover of this issue. If you are interested, check it out! #navy #writing #photography

I’m feeling sad that I missed the extensive Aurora Borealis activity last night, so I might as well share some photos from the only time I have seen it - while onboard @hmcs.ncsm.margaretbrooke during #OpNanook last summer. I don’t know that I did it justice, but wow! #warshipsifr #auroraborealis #canada #canadian #north #arctic #nunavut #photography #ship #shipphotography #seascapephotography

I have mostly self-embargoed my photos of personnel and equipment from my time onboard #HMCSMargaretBrooke until the entire article comes out in #WarshipsIFR, but hey, it’s the holiday season. These pics show our return to the ship from our visit to #HDMSTriton. You feel quite small being this far from the ship in a small boat. #warship #aopv #shipphotography #ship #shipping #RoyalCanadianNavy #arctic #canada #sea #photography

I’m new here, so should probably provide a short #intro . I am a Professional Civil #engineer and Project Manager for an engineering consulting firm in Halifax NS, but mostly use my social media accounts to distribute my #photography (ships, the Navy, architecture, and anything else that catches my fancy) and to boost my side gig writing for #WarshipsIFR magazine. I travelled north in #HMCSMargaretBrooke in August, so you will find me sharing lots of photos of the eastern #Canadian #North.

While interviewing Captain Sheldon Gillis onboard #HMCSMargaretBrooke for #WarshipsIFR, he says to me “There is a bird on your head.” Sure enough, this red-breasted nuthatch was likely tired during migration and thought my hat looked like a good spot for a rest. Amazing to see such a small bird out at sea and far from land. Thanks to Catherine Pross and James Hirtle for the bird ID.
