    >> The Warsaw Ghetto uprising is the most well known act of Jewish resistance to the Nazi regime’s fascism. The refusal of Warsaw Jews to accept the violent fate the Nazis prescribed to them, and instead fight back, reminds us all of our duty to resist oppression wherever it is.

    >> We hold these ancestors close and affirm our commitment to ensuring their values of solidarity, collective liberation, and anti-imperialism are carried on into the future as we fight for justice in Palestine and stand against rising fascism here in the US.

    >> Never again for anyone.

  2. April 19, 1943 - On the eve of Passover, the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising began when Nazi forces attempted to clear out the Jewish ghetto in Warsaw, Poland, to send them to concentration camps. The Germans were met by unexpected gunfire from Jewish resistance fighters. The destruction of the ghetto had been ordered in February by SS Chief Heinrich Himmler:

“An overall plan for the razing of the ghetto is to be submitted to me. In any case we must achieve the disappearance from sight of the living-space for 500,000 sub-humans (Untermenschen) that has existed up to now, but could never be suitable for Germans, and reduce the size of this city of millions—Warsaw—which has always been a center of corruption and revolt.”

  4. @therightarticle Looking at the map here, the Ghetto was a huge chunk of central Warsaw. According to Wikipedia, the boundaries of the Ghetto are now marked by modern memorial markers, and (just?) four buildings from the Ghetto period remain -- much of the Ghetto was levelled just as #Gaza is now being destroyed.`

Could someone from #Warsaw comment, how is the Ghetto remembered now? Is there still a Jewish community in the area?

  6. from the website:
"April 19 marks the anniversary of the #WarsawGhettoUprising—the largest and most heroic act of #Jewish armed resistance during World War II, and the first civilian uprising in occupied #Europe. For the past 13 years, POLIN Museum has organized the #Warsaw Ghetto Uprising Campaign, a global initiative that has engaged thousands of participants—both Jewish and non-Jewish—from #Poland and beyond.

We encourage communities around the world to learn about the events that took place on April 19th, 1943, and to share online what the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising means to you. You will find various materials and resources to help spread the campaign, as well as educational items that can be used for schools."

[Note: this campaign has many sponsors, and a major one is the World Jewish Congress, which wholeheartedly supports Israel. :-( - PL]

Powstanie w Getcie Warszawskim było niezwykle ważnym (przede wszystkim symbolicznie) aktem zbrojnego oporu w obliczu ludobójstwa, w którym uczestniczyli żydzi o diametralnie różnych poglądach i tłach społecznych społecznych właśnie z powodu wymierzonego w nich nazistowskiego nacjonalizmu.

  8. The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising (Yiddish: אױפֿשטאַנד אין װאַרשעװער געטאָ) ended on 16th May 1943. It was an act of Jewish resistance in the Warsaw Ghetto in German-occupied Poland during World War II to oppose Nazi Germany's final effort to transport the remaining ghetto population to Majdanek and Treblinka death camps. By the end of the uprising 56,065 Jews were killed/and or captured of which approximately 36,000 deported to extermination camps.

  10. Today marks the 80th anniversary of the #WarsawGhettoUprising.

#WeRemember & learn from the courage & determination of the poorly armed Jewish fighters & partisans who carried out the revolt successfully.

They fought in the name of justice.

And we must do so to!
