War On Women Announce New Album “Time Under Tension”; Release New Single “Messages Unsent”

The band’s fifth full-length album, “Time Under Tension,” comes out on May 8, 2026. While the upcoming record fulfills fans’ cravings for thoughtful lyrics and powerful punk energy rooted in advocacy, the band also experiments with melodic genre elements from alt-rock, indie, and more. This expansion and evolution are captured clearly in their latest single, “Messages Unsent” – listen here.

Shawna Potter, vocalist of War On Women, elaborated further on the heartfelt meaning behind the track, “This is the first love song I’ve written in a long time, certainly the first in this band. It’s about the idea that once you really have something to lose, a partner or a life you love (or in this case, my dog Rosie), then you start to care more about your own safety, about sticking around. You start thinking about your mortality, and theirs, and it’s terrifying. But even if we don’t get forever, I like the idea that love can live on.
We wanted to create a video as bittersweet and nostalgic as the song itself so we opted to revisit the first tour we did post-2020, when we weren’t sure if we’d ever get to play live music again. The joy of gathering against such a tragic backdrop mimics the songs themes of love and loss.”

"U.S.-funded contraceptives worth nearly $10 million are being sent to France from Belgium to be incinerated, after Washington rejected offers from the United Nations and family planning organisations to buy or ship the supplies to poor nations, two sources told Reuters.
A spokesperson for the U.S. State Department confirmed to Reuters on Wednesday that a decision had been taken to destroy the stock.
The supplies have been stuck for months in a warehouse in Geel, a city in the Belgian province of Antwerp, following President Donald Trump's decision to freeze U.S. foreign aid in January.
They comprise contraceptive implants and pills as well as intrauterine devices to help prevent unwanted pregnancies, according to seven sources and a screengrab shared by an eighth source confirming the planned destruction.
The U.S. government will spend $167,000 to incinerate the stocks at a facility in France that handles medical waste, the U.S. State Department confirmed.
The spokesperson said that a preliminary decision had been made to destroy certain products from terminated U.S. Agency for International Development contracts.
'Only a limited number of commodities have been approved for disposal,' the spokesperson said via email, adding that no condoms or HIV medications would be destroyed.
U.S. lawmakers have introduced two bills this month to prevent the destruction of the supplies following Trump's decision to shut down USAID, but aid groups say the bills are unlikely to be passed in time to stop the incineration.
The Belgian foreign ministry said Brussels had held talks with U.S. authorities and 'explored all possible options to prevent the destruction, including temporary relocation.'
'Despite these efforts, and with full respect for our partners, no viable alternative could be secured. Nevertheless, Belgium continues to actively seek solutions to avoid this regrettable outcome,' it said in a statement shared with Reuters on Tuesday.
'Sexual and reproductive health must not be subject to ideological constraints,' it added.
The supplies, worth $9.7 million, are due to expire between April 2027 and September 2031, according to an internal document listing the warehouse stocks and verified by three sources.

One of the sources with knowledge of the issue said that the Trump administration was acting in accordance with the Mexico City policy, an anti-abortion pact in which Trump reinstated U.S. participation in January. The pact forbids the U.S. government from contributing to or working with organisations providing funding or supplies that offer access to abortions.
The source said there was no way for the U.S. government to ensure that UNFPA would not share the contraceptives with groups offering abortions, violating the Mexico City policy. The State Department also told Reuters these were factors in their decision on Wednesday, and added that it had avoided $34.1 million in costs by cancelling other orders placed under the Biden administration.
The source also said the matter was complicated by the fact that the contraceptives in Belgium were embossed with the USAID trademark and Washington did not want any USAID-branded supplies to be rerouted elsewhere.
UNFPA did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the concerns raised by the source."

"A pregnant woman in Tennessee was recently denied prenatal care because her doctor did not approve of her unwed status. The 35-year-old woman, who has been with her partner for 15 years and is the mother of the couple’s 13-year-old child, was told during her first prenatal appointment that the physician could not in good conscience treat her due to her marital status. The doctor offered no referral. She now has to travel to Virginia for care.
This is the first publicly reported case of a patient being denied prenatal care under Tennessee’s Medical Ethics Defense Act (MEDA), a sweeping piece of legislation passed by the Republican-dominated state government. The law grants health care providers, hospital systems, insurers, and others the legal authority to deny care based on 'religious, moral, or ethical' objections without any obligation to refer patients elsewhere."

I’m keen to find some more #punk folk on here but realise the word means so many different things to people. So was wondering what punk #music means the most to you? Who are the #bands that you come back to time and time again?
For me I’m forever marked by the childhood induction into the scene through a holy trinity (to me) of #DeadKennedys #BadReligion and #GreenDay that gave me an enduring love for political, thoughtful, but melodic and harmony-strewn music with a good dose of introspective personal stuff thrown in for good measure.
Becoming a punk in the mid-90s, of course #NoUseForAName, #BouncingSouls, #Rancid, #Descendents, #Lagwagon, #Nofx, #Propagandhi, etc. became the soundtrack, but I also had #NoMeansNo, #BlackFlag, #SNFU, #TheClash, #Subhumans, #CitizenFish, #ActiveMinds, #Crass, #OiPolloi, #MinorThreat #Ramones and the local bands on the #Birmingham and UK scene to broaden my tastes. Had a big pop-punk love affair after touring Italy with #TheManges and #StinkingPolecats which led to inevitable obsessions with all things #LookoutRecords (#MTX, #ScreechingWeasel, etc.) and all those influences still stick with me today (even if some of the lyrics and songs - and band members - occasionally need some disavowing!).

For me I’m forever marked by the childhood induction into the scene through a holy trinity (to me) of #DeadKennedys #BadReligion and #GreenDay that gave me an enduring love for political, thoughtful, but melodic and harmony-strewn music with a good dose of introspective personal stuff thrown in for good measure.
Becoming a punk in the mid-90s, of course #NoUseForAName, #BouncingSouls, #Rancid, #Descendents, #Lagwagon, #Nofx, #Propagandhi, etc. became the soundtrack, but I also had #NoMeansNo, #BlackFlag, #SNFU, #TheClash, #Subhumans, #CitizenFish, #ActiveMinds, #Crass, #OiPolloi, #MinorThreat #Ramones and the local bands on the #Birmingham and UK scene to broaden my tastes. Becoming a punk in the mid-90s, of course #NoUseForAName, #BouncingSouls, #Rancid, #Descendents, #Lagwagon, #Nofx, #Propagandhi, etc. became the soundtrack, but I also had #NoMeansNo, #BlackFlag, #SNFU, #TheClash, #Subhumans, #CitizenFish, #ActiveMinds, #Crass, #OiPolloi, #MinorThreat #Ramones and the local bands on the #Birmingham and UK scene to broaden my tastes. Had a big pop-punk love affair after touring Italy with #TheManges and #StinkingPolecats which led to inevitable obsessions with all things #LookoutRecords (#MTX, #ScreechingWeasel, etc.) and all those influences still stick with me today (even if some of the lyrics and songs - and band members - occasionally need some disavowing!).

I’m keen to find some more #punk folk on here but realise the word means so many different things to people. So was wondering what punk #music means the most to you? Who are the #bands that you come back to time and time again?
For me I’m forever marked by the childhood induction into the scene through a holy trinity (to me) of #DeadKennedys #BadReligion and #GreenDay that gave me an enduring love for political, thoughtful, but melodic and harmony-strewn music with a good dose of introspective personal stuff thrown in for good measure.
