Greenpeace says the move is part of a wider pattern of stripping away safeguards for land, fresh water, and wildlife such as the repeal of the oil and gas ban, the introduction of the Fast-Track Act, and the recently announced RMA reforms.
Once a species is gone, it’s gone forever. We should be strengthening protections for endangered wildlife, not making it legal to kill them.

Reading "The Lost Bird Project" and realizing that building monuments to extinct birds might seem like a great idea, however, without humankind changing their #WarOnNature and #PerpetualGrowth ideology it is simply a pathetic effort to try telling ourselves that we have learned from our crimes against our environment. Yet without even recognizing what has been lost how can we ever live up to our true potential of building a sustainable future.

Killing over 15% of a population is bad enough, but dropping to less than 400 individuals is almost certain to lead to inbreeding issues and extreme disease vulnerable. I wish the hunters nothing but bad luck, misery, and above all failure.
Unfortunately, I suspect overgrazed Ireland (which is massively in need of wolves) would act the same.
Alas, humans are selfish and rarely tolerate other species existing near their interests.
