Fyra år sen kom en man på besök med sparkcykel, han hade sparkcyklat från Luxemburg och skulle till Stockholm.

Han hade inte räknat med grusvägar så sista 2 milen till oss hade han fått gå och bära sparkcykeln, men hjulen var helt slut ändå så vi hjälpte honom att köpa nya hjul på Biltema.

Vet inte om han någonsin kom fram eller vad som hände sen.

I'm glad to hear him promoting #WarmShowers, which is an excellent hosting service for long-distance cyclists. Still, crossing Canada in the late fall is unlikely to stay pleasant.

I want to meet some more bicycle folks in my area, and am in a position to host with #warmshowers or similar. I kind of want to only host touring cyclists for now just to see how it goes. Does anyone have experience doing this or recommend any similar platforms? Cheers 🚲 😊 🚲

Just had an interesting #Warmshowers experience staying in one of the filthiest apartment I’ve ever seen. It spans an entire floor of an old downtown building in an Austrian town, owned by a well meaning weirdo (I’m also not sure he has 100% mental integrity).

For me this was fine, just a form of wildcamping, but I did not dare to eat anything that did not come from an intact packaging, and tried to avoid touching as little as I could….

Someone got pissed and spammed a hosts profile with angry reviews.

I don’t think it’s the hosts to blame. More like zero fucks given by #Warmshowers about app usability and power tools for hosts/guests in hotspots where several requests a day might be a pain to manage.

But we could use Computers wisely to make this manageable….

There is something very sad in having been a #WarmShowers host several dozen times, and not even getting a "sorry, no" response to my requests to stay as a guest.

Hat in meiner Fahrradbubble jemand Erfahrung mit #warmshowers? Außerhalb Deutschlands scheint das durchaus attraktiv zu sein für Radreisende. Ich habe aber halt wenig Lust 30€ für die Katze im Sack zu zahlen nur um zu sehen wie viele Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten es im jeweiligen Zielland überhaupt gibt. Für Deutschland ist mir #1nitetent irgendwie sympathischer.

@sesivany Tady se odvážím si svojí biased dojmo-statistikou oponovat: Poslední ~3 roky moji hosté z celého světa na #WarmShowers / #CouchSurfing už výhradně hlásí že používají jen dvě aplikace se splitem 50/50 mezi #MapyCz a #Komoot.
Jakákoliv alternativa pro kolo / hiking je spíš výjimečná. Mapy.cz jsou ve světě známé a uznávané.

Ja, seitdem #couchsurfing Gebühr kostet (für jeden, nicht mal "nur host" kostenfrei), hat die Community leider stark nachgelassen (verständlicherweise)
Ich streue und gucke in verschiedenen Communities.
Ich habe noch einen #warmshowers Account, schaue bei #1nitetent und #WelcomeToMyGarden - aber ich bin auch mit dem Zelt unterwegs

Dieses Dachgeber scheint mir unpraktikabel - wer schleppt denn ein 260 Seiten Buch mit... Und auch allgemein

I have a Warm Showers guest, a young guy from South Korea. I introduced him to guacamole. Good deed done. #cycling #WarmShowers

Said farewell to our first #warmshowers house guest in about five years. Strangely, seems that every #cycling tourist staying here is french

Today I experienced two things:

1) Some random guy from #WarmShowers popped by to mine so that I can show him how to replace #DiscBrakes on his #bike. We had a cool chat, drank coffee and he also did his lunch prep at mine.

2) I tried to pick up the slack on my #OSS & #JS contributions and tried to make a reproduction for a bug I reported earlier. I found out that I can no longer find the code that was failing for me and also that I can make vanilla project fail to boot just by trying to copy&paste steps from READMEs.

So, yes, I am absolutely ready to abandon all the tech and move to the mountains and grow my own food. Why are you asking?

On one side I love #warmshowers (the idea and the community) On the other side, the website is not really usable and the I would prefer if this would be open source. There are opensource alternatives, but they hardly have any users.
I asked to be able to load GPX tracks into the map https://www.warmshowers.org/forum/help-navigating-new-website/loading-gpx-ws-map and got shot down.. I would have thought this is a no brainer for a trip planning app?

Gerade für mich als überwiegend Alleinreisende hat man Anschluss und jmd die|der die Stadt zeigt oder zumindest sagt was gut ist, was man machen sollte und was zwar ein "musst du unbedingt gemacht haben" ist aber völlig langweilig, mach lieber das...

So bin ich jetzt ein paar Tage bei einer kleinen Familie, die mir gestern schon sehr viel erzählt hat, mir Tipps gegeben hat... UND einen "opensource" Stadtplan https://www.use-it.travel/cities/detail/ostrava/

Is there a way of contacting or distribution to #warmshowers ? While their new App and Website improved a lot, there is still a lot tonwish for, like
* loading and showing an GPX track
* showing the distance of a host to the current position

I love the idea behind warmshowers, but it all looks very closed system.

And no, I do not join Facebook for that
