If you haven't played this game I recommend it. The rules are simple, but enjoyable. With the enemies being controlled by predetermined actions, it plays like an interesting puzzle as you try and solve how to win each mission. The campaign elements are fun, and as each mission is short you can play several missions in a session. It's a bit like a D&D "light", basic role-play, but with a good story behind it and solid mechanics.

Act Three of #darkwater #warhammerquest completed, and we all lived! First full playthrough done, need to do another complete playthrough, with the new characters, then we get the bonus mission for the one after that.

Obviously going to be harder. Ahem.

Usual amount of head scratching on the 5 encounters we fought today before the final boss fight. Love the variety of missions.

Painting this strange caterpillar-maggotkin-witch from #darkwater has reminded me of so many old tricks we used back in the 90s when I was cabinet painting for GW. 😇

Been a while since I did the whole Undercoat, Basecoat carefully, touch up, washes, highlights, drybrush, etc. I can see why I stopped.

Fun for one model or two, but an army? Even a couple of units? Nope. I like to play games, not wait weeks while I paint it all.
#ArmyPainter Speedpaints were a marvellous invention.

“Table ready” for GW games nights was simple for our hobbyists who wanted to play on the shop tables:
1️⃣ Three colours completely covering the model.
2️⃣ Base painted.

That was it.
I was never allowed to do that becuse I worked there and had to set an example. My old Harlequins look insane… 🤪

For anyone else who has Procreate (or Affinity, etc) this is how I set up to plan paint colours.

First image is the official Warhammer shot of Inara Sion. I used the built in iPad photo editor to remove colour and adjust the image to retain shadows and highlights, but lighten it so I can ‘paint’ over it.

The second image is my typical layer setup in Procreate that allows me to experiment with colours, shading, details etc. Blend modes let you see the image behind the paints, rather than blocking with pure colour. Feel free to experiment.

Once I’m happy, I then get the paints out.

I use a cheap (€20) pencil, rather than the Apple one on this tablet. Don’t find a difference.

Avoided buying it. 🥶

Yes, I DO bloody well want it, but mainly for painting the new miniatures as the new game system just looks a bit meh. (Watched hours of video of online players. Unimpressed. Original WHQ is just more fun. )

As a bookmap-based game, GloomHaven has this new variant beat. I also like the previous WHQ game Cursed City but we use some variant rulesets with that to fix certain issues.

Still love the WHQ minis though. *sigh* 🫣

So, I've been posting some of the artwork for the dungeon tiles that I'll be using for this random dungeon thingy that I keep talking about - and today I've finally got to the stage where I'm making a few of the actual tiles :) :) :)

Note that I'm just printing the designs out on sticky-back label paper, sticking them to some 2mm thick greyboard/chipboard, and then cutting them to size.
