Question for #wardleyMapping experts: I want to visualise the evolution of a system to be able to fulfil a need. Some parts are not existing today ("left" from Genesis). Would you still put it in that column as an evolution step, isn't it? Would you map it as 2 capabilities, v1 as it is today and v2 the more complete version?

One of the hardest things when you start with #WardleyMapping is that it forces you to understand your users and their needs.

That's the biggest barrier I found when people started to effectively adopt WM.

You need to continuously learn about the current user needs and future ones. But if you just assume you know, you are missing a central peace of the whole WM journey, the anchor that everything derivatives from. Creating a sense of understanding the landscape but indeed, you don't.

This new approach (like Wardley Mapping) is CC-BY-SA 4.0 and freely available for everyone to learn and teach. Eventually, this will become a freely available course.

It is still a work in progress, but I invite you to meet with me. Your feedback and experience will be kept private, but will directly influence the approach and teaching material to make it most effective for yourself and others.

A benefit that #WardleyMapping provide me is the uncomfortable realization of how much I don't know about a topic.

When I have been in a landscape for a while, adding my assumptions there is quite straight forward.

On the other hand, when I'm facing a new space, I find myself blocked quite early.

Is this the user? Which are their needs? Which are the relevant components here?

Then I usually do four things.

1. Create a first map with everything I know and the assumptions as side notes.
2. Do research on the topic, either by searching online or conversations with people.
3. Do a new map with the stuff learned.
4. Compare both maps. See what I learned, which assumptions were wrong and why.
