Enlightened keeps dropping down, but it'll go up a bit when the newly learned items mature enough.
The load is pretty light and it doesn't take much effort to do daily reviews, but I wonder when this is going to end, haha!

I’m at 367 enlightened items and getting lower! Wanikani added a bunch of new content so my Guru is a bit high, but we’ll get there!

久しぶりですね。
Back in April I had to focus on an event that took all my time in a day for 2 weeks. I had to suspend all new learning and just survive to #BunPro and #WaniKani reviews during that time. Even reviews were not consistent during that period.
Some time afterwards I got back to studying new grammar points at BunPro. I'm not studying new items everyday, but around four out three times a week. All new grammar points are really useful to increase comprehension. I'm currently 40% through N4 items.
I'm still at #WaniKani level 30. I've been doing revisions everyday but generally not studying new items. Only very sporadically. This means WaniKani progress is actually going backwards in the sense that they are adding new vocabulary from previous levels 😅 I've studied some of it.
Lastly, lately, when commuting I've been pretty much always listening to the Nihongo con Teppei podcast. I guess I'm getting better at listening. It's relatively rare the episode or part of episode where I can't grasp what's going on. However, I feel this is beginner level Japanese, very paused, and that if I try something a little bit more difficult I'll be completely lost 😆
The podcast is also good to listen to newly learned grammar points being used in practice. Acts as a review of them.
I've read some very short and simple illustrated books during a weekend a few weeks ago, but other than that I haven't read much Japanese lately. I'd like to try simple unillustrated books. I have some in my Kobo, downloaded from #Aozora. I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Two more weeks of #wanikani and I'm still going!
Burn rate: 4.22 items/day 📈
I'm close to < 400 Enlightened items which is a small milestone worth celebrating. Other than that no notable activities since I don't get much time between work, 3D printing, and photographing rehearsals. Managed to squeeze one book through (グランド・ヴァカンス）, and ordered the second part of it; but for now reading The Humanity Protocol.

Been learning Japanese and kanji for the past month or so via Mango and WaniKani. Started off the right way, learning all of hiragana and katakana via Anki before I did anything else.
Japanese is kind of hard, but kanji are hard. It's incredible to me that there's an entire country and culture where basic literacy requires you to learn thousands of characters, each of which have multiple pronunciations and often multiple meanings.

Two weeks of doing #wanikani reviews has passed, and you deserve an update!
Burn rate: π items/day (3.14) Sloooow, but who cares?
Audiobooks are still going strong (albeit with hardly 100% comprehension), but I wonder how it will affect my listening skills when I retest for TTBJ in October!
As an aside, apparently excerpts from 「グラン・ヴァカンス」 are so interesting that Olga asked me to get her a translation so we ordered the last book on Amazon from a seller in Ohio! ("Thousand year beach”)

Finished "Butter”, listening to “In the Megachurch" and so far not sure what to make of it, but I'll keep going on for a bit.

I finally did some more #WaniKani kanji drill this weekend (after weeks in Japan ignoring the notifications on my phone’s Home Screen).
I did at least manage to puzzle out a few place names from the few kanji I have mastered (easier when you have the pronunciation right there too).

Not much of an update, but I've been adding a bunch of new vocabulary words from the book I'm reading.
I'm still doing daily immersion with "Butter” audiobook, and I'll be honest if I say that I understand 10% of it, so I have to guess a lot of the plot from the parts that I got (and I'm often wrong 🤣)

Enlightened count finally dropped below 600. Funny enough the rest of the buckets are roughly the same. Let's burn more enlightened things so that I have easier time memorizing the rest! I have 771 items remaining in total so maybe in 5-6 months I'll finally get through (most of) it?!
Started reading a second book in addition to 文字渦: グラン・ヴァカンス. The story is pretty interesting so far!

I’m currently struggling through a book called 文字渦 which extremely difficult for me to read, but equally fascinating! It is precisely the type of meta self-referencing literature that I enjoy (hey, Charlie Kauffman!) and at the same time it is all about about kanji! What could be better?

Through wanikani's community forums learned that what I'm dealing with is called "leeches”, and this is a well known phenomenon when trying to burn remaining items down after Level 60. At least it is helpful to know that I’m not alone in it!
A week ago I started listening audibooks in Japanese while walking the dog. We'll see what effect it has on my TTBJ comprehension!

Nothing exciting to share, but I'm counting items down! Wanikani added more content so now I'm at 952 items remaining. At least I'm burning items faster than they add new ones, haha!
According to heat map I did 821 reviews in March, or 26.5 per day on average. This is low enough to go through in 10-15 minutes in the morning so I can’t complain!

This is what “burndown” territory looks like, folks. I'm making progress, but at this rate it might take me another 6 months to get through all items. It doesn't really take much time to do 20-30 reviews per day, but I'm also thinking about stopping here and just spending my time elsewhere.

I'm nearly finished with #Genki I. Only a few exercises left. I've been studying consistently every week since start of January.
When I went to Japan I bought some manga. I planned to try to readドラえもん volume 1 when I finished Genki I, one of the simpler manga I bought.
With this in mind, the other day I looked at #Natively (learnnatively.com) to see what it said about Doraemon. It says #WaniKani level 21. I'm currently finishing 29. No issue there.
I read some comments to see if anyone mentioned grammar level. I found a few comments mentioning N3. I'm not sure whether they're mentioning it in terms of vocabulary, grammar or both. But I know my grammar is barely a solid N5...
I looked up some more books. Many had WK level around 30, mostly below.
So... I've come to the hard realisation (which I already knew, but it hit me harder now) that my grammar is lagging behind. A lot!
With that in mind, I jumped into #Bunpro three days ago. I planned to do it after finishing Genki I and II, but now I know that's a mistake. I need to move much faster and in a solid way with grammar (spaced repetition, because I learn grammar and forget it...), and I think Bunpro will help. I'm enjoying it so far, let's see how it develops. (Ah, I synched vocab with WK, so I don't get furigana I should know. Also disabled English translation by default.)
I'm using the Genki I grammar deck for now, as a full review of everything I should already know and as a way to practice. And I'm learning new things/nuances because Bunpro has different explanations for the same grammar points.
Anyway, I'll soon try to read ドラえもん and see how it goes. The extent to which I'll understand it or not will be important information to assess how far or short I am in this long road of #JapaneseLearning .

Correct review rate keeps staying pretty high around 90%, but I guess I keep making mistakes in longer run and demote items back to apprentice.

Burn rate: 5.29 items/day. I guess this is the new norm now?
My correct review rate for past 7 days was: 90.05%, and 7 days before that it was 88.59%; but somehow I didn't get as far with the burn as I thought I would.
I finished level 60 back in August around 6 months ago which is also a total SRS time from Apprentice to Burned. I guess I burned all items that I remembered well and now I'm in the mistake zone!
Anyway, let's keep on going!

Still doing #wanikani reviews.
Burn rate: 5.07 items/day 😱
Something has definitely changed, and I'm burning way less items… My suspicion is that good percentage of remaining items is in some sort of SRS loop: I get them to enlightened, make mistake, they drop to apprentice, and I get them back to enlightened.
I need a change of strategy: if I make a mistake - I go and re-read the mnemonics. Let's see where it takes me!
On a positive side: passed mock N1 a bit earlier!
