Well, smart server administrators have some limiting factor in signups. Wise server admins like those at #HoosierSocial and #WanderingShop both do this. Even something as simple as a dialog box asking why you want to be a member will stymie automatic signups by a spambot.

Open registrations seem like a fun, OK idea, until they become a terrible idea overnight.

So as far as I understand it the science fiction stuff is on #wanderingshop but how do you access it?

I've mistakenly added too many news/politics/FediMeta stress accounts to my main feed, but it turns out the #WanderingShop local feed is a great place for a breathing break. The instance goal of a 'local' timeline with "the feel of a coffee shop at a good science fiction convention: tables full of friendly conversation on a wide variety of topics," is coming along nicely. Thank you @Johannab !

My day:

* got blackbox monitoring working for #WanderingShop so now I know how often our latency spikes (a lot!). Verdict: success
* made a GH action that builds >1 fly.io application. Verdict: nifty!
* tried to make a puzzle piece base model four fucking times. Current status: unable to create an axis to rotate around and unable to translate a component to a place where the origin would work. Verdict: fuck everything (especially Fusion360) all the way into the sun.

Trying to spend more time looking at the shop’s local feed and interacting there; this is a lovely community of people. #WanderingShop

I also puzzled about that issue, as I've been an #SFF fan for many years and also wanted to get an invite. However, as I can follow anyone from any fedi server, I realised it's not a problem.

Just follow the writers etc you like to start seeing their posts.
