#AddieBrik - "Saki" (2004)
Another American ex-pat who like me lives in Scotland, Addie Brik has been making mysterious, thought-provoking pop music for over 40 years now. Initially in a #PostPunk torch singer vein backed by guys from #WallOfVoodoo & #RedHotChiliPeppers, she then pivoted into dancefloor-based #TripHop in the 90s/early 2000s, and finally matured into a worldweary singer-songwriter on 2022's That Dog Don't Hunt. I like it all, esp. bits like "Saki" that have a distinctly groovy #RAndB feel.

What an amazing introduction to the far out sounds of Wall of Voodoo!
Longarm, Can't Make Love, and their amazing cover of Ring Of Fire.
This EP is perfectly strange and unique!

Wall Of Voodoo – Seven Days In Sammystown (1985)
It's bold to continue a band after 60% of the band members leave - including the lead singer and primary songwriter.
#WallOfVoodoo did a pretty job with it. Their signature sound is mostly retained, though moved slightly more radio friendly.
Lost is much of their quirkiness. Their strangeness smoothed out.
I'm not saying that's bad, it's simply different.
In my head, they're two different bands.
It's not like The Misfits where I see each iteration as different eras of 1 band, this Wall of Voodoo is its own thing, and it's not bad.

THE #WallOfVoodoo album. Dark Continent walked so Call Of The West could run!
I also have the cassette release because it includes the song Exercise, which was not included on the LP release. It also happens to be my favorite Wall of Voodoo song.

Wall Of Voodoo – Dark Continent (1981)
#WallOfVoodoo is such a strange band. Their history is fascinating! I highly recommend everyone ready their #wikipedia page.
They mix of #punk, #western movie soundtracks, and #newwave with strange and dark lyrics for the working man.
What's not to like?

The prompt is WestWall of Voodoo, “Call of the West” 1982
#WallOfVoodoo cultivated an air of mystery - their album covers, their very name! - and the subject matter of their songs, #StanRidgway's arch vocals, the music itself were always a little offbeat and angular in a way that made it easy for them to ride the #NewWave to us, via #EnnioMorricone #SpaghettiWestern.
This album was their commercial peak. I was going to feature a track you're less likely to have heard, but in the end had to go with "Mexican Radio." How could I resist the couplet “I wish I was in Tijuana/Eating barbecued iguana”?
Another favorite of mine is their oddly compelling cover of "Ring of Fire" from their debut eponymous ep. You may have also heard frontman and artistic lead Ridgway on "Don't Box Me In" from #StewartCopeland's soundtrack for the film adaptation of #SEHinton's Rumblefish, and he continues to release solo music via #bandcamp.
