So this (unexpectedly) happened yesterday. Was told in the morning that there’d been a cancellation in the afternoon and I could have the appointment. 25 months from initial referral to get this.
(For those not in the UK, this is a remarkably short wait for a first appointment for trans-related healthcare: demand vastly exceeds supply.)
It’ll be another year or so before my next appointment and any chance of official “treatment”: I’ll have been self-medicating for four years come January. 🙄

This conflicts with one of the basic principles underlying medical practice, that faced with an inability to treat everyone who needs help, those with the most pressing requirements should come first.

I'm on a #waitinglist for an #NHS #dentist & have been offered a #checkup at #NHSdental #price. But the dentist's bio is focused on fancy #treatments rather than basics. This makes me nervous.
Add that to #Covid concerns & I've got a conundrum.
Having needed a #rootcanal #treatment decades ago I know how agonising #toothache can be.
I don't trust all these new plans & can't afford upfront #privatedental fees.
Anyone found a reasonable solution? -

…Ofcls began investigating after…a complaint. An analysis found what the #hospital called “irregularities” in how #patients were classified on a #WaitingList for liver #transplants. When #doctors place a patient on the list, they identify types of #donors they would consider, incl’g age & weight.
Hospital ofcls said they found patients had been listed as accepting only donors w/ages & weights that were impossible—for instance, a 300-lb toddler—making them unable to receive any transplant.

Depending on the specialty and where you are, you may wait months just for that phone call, and then a year or significantly longer to see the specialist. And then if they decide you need treatment, you may wait another year or more for that.
I was on a waiting list to see a particular specialist ... for 7 years. I ended up moving to a different city, under a different health administration, before I got to the top of the list.

Of course, #PostNews choice of pyramid scheme for onboarding is itself one of the reasons for the diminishing interest in Mastodon, in an ironic way: apparently people prefer getting stuck in a #waitingList for weeks rather than making a trivial choice with limited impact that would allow them to start using the new system instantly (and that's without getting into the details of what they'll get into when they finally pass the waiting list).
