President Ibrahim Traoré isn't fighting Arabs and Muslims, he's fighting Wahhabis and Arab-supremacists. He just didn't say it outright. He did mention Medina and those who went to study Sharia in Saudi Arabia. The guy is fighting imperialism in every corner. Leave him alone. Don't treat Muslims as a monolith. Muslims who grew up in post-colonial nation-states must know what I'm talking about. Something about petrodollar scholarship that just makes your neighbours pivot to "salafi" is insidious in the long term. Wait until they commit takfir on you though and call you Western-influenced or your indigenised Islamic practice bid'ah or make you feel less Muslim than they are, while they make Islam feel imported on your own non-Arab soil. All while Islam was always deeply embedded in many anti-colonial movements historically. And to come home from the Sharia study in Saudi Arabia and condemn your fellow Muslims while calling yourself "salafi"? Traoré isn't ahead of his time, it's just about time to call them out.

This misogynist interpretation of Islam has been around for more than a century through #Wahhabism and #Salafism. There are tens of millions of Muslim fundamentalists across Pakistan, Afghanistan, Arabian peninsula, and parts of Africa, that accept these extremist teachings.
