  1. well that was mid the entire way thru. for personal reasons 😭 i ended up needing something pretty brainless today and actually ended up exploring the entire map, which was actually very well done in zones 2 and 3, and i couldn't help but wonder what it might have been if teleporting everywhere and farming interchangeable high-end ingredients wasn't the easiest path to do anything. but folks, it was not that game.

    final verdict: i give it 0.7 Ryza 3s 😐

  4. this game would be better if you had reasons to spend more than 40 seconds in any of your bases. even taking loading time annoyance into account, you only need one per region and nothing happens in them, so why bother fussing over what they look like?

there are a few special functions that take over an entire base slot but around the time i got to those, i also got a blueprint that effectively removed the basket capacity (already huge compared to other Atelier games) as a reason to ever go home.

this isn't a rare problem in exploration games with fast travel: No Man's Sky and Starbound immediately come to mind. for Atelier Yumia in particular, i'm considering playing on a harder difficulty with self-imposed fast travel restrictions… but also i might just finish it and move on to something else. possibly a replay of Sophie 2 😅

  8. the best time for Gust to retire their engine would have been Atelier Sophie 2. the second best time is now. jesus christ the framerate. my eyes. this is a PS5 not a Switch

i do like that alchemy is recognized as the crime that it should have been in every previous game
