お久しぶりです〜! ⊂( „• 　◡　 •„ )っ’’

今回の絵は新しいイラストシリーズの初投稿です！浮世絵風の色彩や舞台設定に対し、リアル系の厚塗りで描くことが、このシリーズのテーマです。

『辞書の見立「びわ三景」』というタイトルにしました。「見立絵」っぽいイラストを作ってみようと思ったのです。

太田記念美術館によると、
「浮世絵によく見られる「美人画」や、「役者絵」、そして「風景画」。何気なく目にしているこれらのモチーフにも、実はちょっとした「謎掛け」が仕掛けられ、背後に別の意味や関係性が隠されていることが少なくありません...見立絵とは、連想ゲームのように、画中の題材から別のイメージを連想して楽しむ、知的な趣向の絵のことを言います。見立絵に隠された意味や関係性を読み解くことによって、私たちは江戸の人たちが楽しんだ、豊かな教養を垣間見ることができるのです。」

自分のイラストの場合、「視覚的ダジャレ」を描き込んでみました。※そんなに面白くはありません〜 (笑) ただ「びわ」の3つの意味や連想を描くことで、絵を「辞書」にしました。

それに、連想されるものがもう一つありますよね！〜察してみて〜 ヒント: Vy2 + 琵琶。

(実は、この連想はまったく偶然でした！「びわ」に対する最初の興味は「琵琶湖大鯰」なのでした！本当に〜)

※相変わらず、米津玄師・はちPさんの「結んで開いて羅刹と骸」の「初音ミク」からインスピレーションを受けます。

This piece is a part of a new series I am starting!
Semi-realistic illustrations—staged like traditional Japanese woodblock prints! (Ukiyo-e!)

The title of this piece is:
Dictionary Parody "Three Views of ‘Biwa’"
辞書の見立「びわ三景」
Jisho no Mitate "Biwa Sankei"

"Biwa" can refer to three things in Japanese:
𝟣. 琵琶 (𝖻𝗂𝗐𝖺): the Japanese lute, a string instrument.
𝟤. 琵琶湖 (𝖻𝗂𝗐𝖺-𝗄𝗈): Lake Biwa, the largest freshwater lake in Japan, located northeast of the ancient capital city of Kyoto.
𝟥. 枇杷 (𝖻𝗂𝗐𝖺): the loquat, an orange-colored fruit that is vaguely shaped like its namesake instrument.

By including all three “biwa” definitions in this piece, I essentially made the illustration a “parody” of a dictionary.

Ukiyo-e that include puns or parodies are in a genre called 見立絵 (mitate-e, lit. "likening pictures.")

In December, my twin *passed* the hardest Japanese fluency exam (the N1) 🎉 Because she basically *lives* in dictionaries (she’s made 20,000 Anki flashcards from them…), I chose this theme in part as a nod to her.

This picture also happens to have a *secondary* visual pun or parody... can you guess it? (Hint: Vy2 is here…)

It's okay if you don't *believe* me—but I swear the whole "Vy2 + loquat" inclusion was a coincidence. I didn't plan it. My initial fascination with the word "Biwa" was from Lake Biwa... and its species of catfish (predictably.)
