Volkswagens's cloud service VW Connect has interesting properties. It's used for the communication between the mobile app and the car, and thanks to reverse engineering also by other integrations like Home-Assistant.

A week ago ours stopped working, both for those third party integrations as well as VW's own app. After having researched whether the problem was on my side or not I decided to wait out this temporary outage.

After two days I wondered why nothing happened. After all, this should be a somewhat big deal, since it meant you couldn't start window defrosting remotely and other obvious winter needs. I looked around on the web and found that this ... just happens, sometimes, and it's "per car" - not the whole service in itself. And it's been doing this for years.

Because yes, last evening my integrations started showing updated information, and we've done absolutely nothing different from any other day.

I wonder if the VW developers even know about this. I'd love to hear the technical details behind it!
