  1. I would like to replace the front door - hopefully it's a revolving door, so the aesthetics don't change so much - of the YCombinator offices with an enormous 10-stacked-blades MixMaster.

It seems that the complete corruption of my industry might have been prevented if I'd done this years ago, and anyone trying to go in or out of that place is not going to be a loss to society anyways.

If I like the results, we can start on the others.

  2. @mastodonmigration @ikuturso

    it's #cryptobros

#bluesky is owned and run by crypto bros

#jaygraber herself is a #cryptobro, coming from that world:

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jay_Grab

what i always expected (and i guess i should still expect, if their financial situation is that dire and that they are now at the mercy of #vulturecapital) is some stupid #crypto tie in with bluesky

  3. Marques Brownlee has put up a video about a US$20,000 robot. The company behind it claims it can do a whole range of household tasks 'through the power of AI', and will be delivered next year.

They even demonstrated a prototype to a journalist.

And the entire demonstration was being remotely controlled by a human operator.

And the company admits that, other than one or two simple tasks like opening a door, all tasks will be completed by a remote human operator. Those tasks will need to be scheduled in advance.

    So.

Assuming this thing can be put into mass production, a huge if, it's basically a mechanical Turk.

    Mark my words.

If this thing makes it to market, and that's a big if, the operators will be in a low-wage country.

It will almost exclusively be a way for rich white Americans to have human servants do their chores, without them being in their house.

  4. Oh my $DEITY, the "AI" #slop problem...

I do #hobby #electronics. I ran into a problem that I was having difficulty figuring out from the IC manufacturer's datasheet (which is terse, but does contain several example uses / circuits). It felt like I was missing something fundamental about the way it worked, so I searched the web for 3rd-party documentation, tips, tricks, examples of use, etc.

And I got pages and pages and pages of results that were nothing but slop.

Language clearly stolen from the official datasheet and reworded by #AI into not making sense.

Articles that repeat the same point in multiple sentences in multiple sequential paragraphs.

Descriptions that refer to numbered components that do not appear on the shown schematic.

Descriptions of the working of the component that are incredibly obviously incorrect, to the point that anyone who's ever measured the voltage drop across a resistor would say "That can't be right".

Confident declarations of the function of many of the device's (numerous) control pins, which are not only wrong, but sometimes completely the opposite of reality. To the point that if you followed the given instructions, you would very quickly release the #magic #smoke and become sad.

Out of the first ~60 #search results, I saw 2 that were actual humans communicating. And neither of them had a solution, they were only semi-related.

    The #web is #broken. Thanks, #SiliconValley #techbros.

  8. You can laugh at the fate of #RedLobster as "mass market drek"

But consider the #vulturecapital details of its demise (financial parasites stripping it of assets, etc)

And consider its place in the history of #desegregation, and in the heart of #Black #America

"Customers would enter and exit the same doors; sit wherever they chose to sit and receive the same food and the same service. This should not have been a radical proposition but it was"

  9. "And even though the internet is already mostly bots, we’re only just beginning to see the Bot Age take shape. According to the market-research firm CB Insights, more than a dozen venture-capital-backed bot startups raised their first round of funding last year."
