  1. VT Gov Phil "What would you suppose I should do?" Scott can't even oversee a simple technology department yet he wants to take over your children's education too. #vtpoli #vermont #politics

  2. CW: reproductive rights, horrifying

Jesus christ, Vermont DCF, what the fuck?

I'm not sure I can express how horrified I am at their actions here.

They surveilled a woman through her pregnancy, used information she provided to counselors to determine before her child had been born that she should lose custody (on false pretenses, claiming in an affidavit that the child had already been born), and tried to use court action to compel her to get a C-section (which she eventually did voluntarily), then took custody of the baby before she could hold it, and kept custody of the baby for 9 months in foster care before being forced to return the baby to the mother as they had no grounds to separate the baby in the first place.

And this is a state that has reproductive rights protected in both its constitution and laws.

  3. I want to start out by apologizing that my updates this week will be fewer in frequency and detail. This weekend I tested positive for COVID. While I’m fortunate that my case has been mild so far (although this COVID fatigue is awful), to comply with Statehouse rules I am not permitted to be in the building this week. #VTpoli 1/3

  4. Today was a big day in the statehouse. The headline event was Governor Phil Scott’s State of the State address. I really appreciated his words about the importance of volunteerism in our communities, in flood recovery and beyond. It made me think about what we could be doing as a legislature to encourage more volunteerism in our communities—something to think about for the future. 1/3 #vtpoli

  5. Today was the first day of the second year of our legislative session. As you can imagine, today’s atmosphere was much like the first day of school. People were greeting friends and colleagues that they hadn’t seen for months, giving hugs and talking about the ups and downs since everyone last saw each other. #vtpoli 1/2

  6. The legislative session begins tomorrow, Wednesday, at 10 AM with a house floor session.

Like I did last year, I will update my Facebook and Mastodon accounts several times a week to share my observations on what is going on under the Golden Dome in Montpelier. I hope to share not only the headlines but some of what goes on behind the scenes so you can get a sense of what is really going on in our government. #VTPoli

  7. Thank you to everyone who came out to my meet and greets in Whiting and Shoreham today.

If you couldn’t make it, I’ll be having a meet and greet in Orwell at the library from 9-10 AM on Friday, December 8th. I’ll also be working on scheduling events in Hubbardton and Sudbury soon.

Once the session begins I’ll be posting here more regularly to let you know what’s going on in Montpelier. #VTpoli

  8. This afternoon I had the opportunity to join members of Governor Phil Scott’s administration and the Addison County Legislative Delegation in a listening session to hear about the flood damage in Addison County.

Like so many Vermonters, folks in Addison County have suffered losses due to the flood. But individuals can’t get federal help because our county has not met a mysterious and undefined level of losses. #VTpoli 1/2

  9. At the Addison County Economic Development Corporation meeting this morning, we heard from Kevin Chu of the Vermont Futures Project. They are working with the state to develop a plan for increasing Vermont’s population to meet our employment needs and non-seasonal housing stock to meet our housing needs. 1/2 #VTpoli
