🔗 JOIN: https://join.gov.tw/

"On #vTaiwan, public discussions are held using a tool called Pol.is, which allows people to post statements that others can vote to agree or disagree with, and based on these responses, Pol.is creates #visualmaps that illustrate clusters of #consensus. (Direct replies aren’t allowed, to prevent trolling and abuse.) This visual structure gamifies the process of consensus building, incentivizing users to craft nuanced statements capable of breaking free of echo chambers."

"The #vTaiwan process consists of four successive stages—proposal, opinion, reflection and legislation—supported by a selection of colloborative #opensource engagement tools.
And an interesting leading edge of vTaiwan development is the use of #3Dcameras in live-streamed #stakeholderdialogues to allow observers with appropriate apps to immerse themselves in #virtualreality representations of those conversations."

“Fostering deliberation would require platforms that encourage long-term and in-depth interaction with arguments and less 'communicative plenty'“
https://algorithmwatch.org/en/mastodon-public-sphere/
Fair comment. I do find that conversations on Discourse forums or Loomio groups are more likely to go deep, and lead to covergent outcomes, then even the most constructive chats here. I haven't used Pol.is, but I've read impressive things about its by #g0v for vTaiwan.

@pukkamustard This sounds a bit like the system implemented by Gov0 as part of vTaiwan. Can't think of the name off the top of my head, but there is some info about vTaiwan here:
https://info.vtaiwan.tw/I think it's the same system Scoop.co.nz implemented as "Hivemind".

@lightweight have you looked into how vTaiwan works? As an alternative to pushing policy through political parties, it uses various tools - both online and offlne - to involve huge numbers of citizens in developing policy, and feeds its outputs directly into government Ministries:
https://info.vtaiwan.tw/ -
"A recent report from the #Stanford University School of Medicine documents 124 distinct [#COVID19] interventions that #Taiwan implemented with remarkable speed. Many of these interventions bubbled into the public sector through community initiatives, #hackathons, and digital deliberation on the #vTaiwan digital democracy platform, on which almost half the country’s population participates."

Taiwan designed a social network around building consensus so they could create laws people would agree on. Apparently it actually works.
