If I could do so safely, I would leave today. In fact, I tried to leave in early 2020, but the damn COVID-19 pandemic happened. I had someone willing to sponsor me to become a Canadian citizen.
Canada is not perfect — no nation is — but you have far more people in Canada who vote smartly.
By “smartly,” I mean voting for the person you want and believe in, not just because someone said, “Vote blue no matter who.” Who you vote for matters.
Donald Trump is an asshole. But he is a symptom of a much larger problem.
I’m not saying don’t vote for Democrats — that’s nonsense. I’m saying vote progressively. Often that will be a Democrat, but that is not always guaranteed. Sometimes the progressive candidate will be a Democrat, Independent, Green, or something else. If you want real change and don’t want to repeat history, we need to move left. If we don’t, we will just keep making the same mistakes over and over again.
Four years before Donald Trump’s second term, we could have done something to prevent it. Four years before that — eight years ago — we could have stopped his first term. We did neither because corporate Democrats, who were not progressives, claimed unity was more important than accountability and tried to work with these pedophile Nazis. They will do it again if we let them.

A majority of my life I've had to fend for myself with very few people in my corner. That's all I know, but I know how to survive. So today, I don't vote for me.
