  1. 🚨 Reminder for Oregonians:

Today's the last day to vote in the May primary!

Have you turned in your ballot? Even folks not registered for any party can vote on ballot measures and levies, so open up that ballot you got in the mail and take a look! I voted yes on my local parks and rec bond measure 😁

Drop off your completed ballot at any official drop box by 8 PM today. Here's the drop box locator

  2. "Oregon became the first state in the nation to vote exclusively by mail following a 1998 ballot measure that passed with broad support. That policy has led to the state having among the highest rates of eligible voting-age residents who cast ballots."

Everyone I know in Oregon - Republican, Democrat, or other - loves our vote by mail system.

  3. Leave vote-by-mail alone! 😠

"The latest court filing says the president has no power under the Constitution or federal law to interfere in elections or stop delivery of mail. Under the Constitution, elections are controlled by states, while the U.S. Postal Service is governed by Congress"

  4. @Strandjunker I'd much rather have a fully "vote by mail" system in every state than a national holiday.

That means ballots are automatically sent by mail to all registered voters. Completed ballots can be mailed back or taken to an official drop box. The system should also include provisions for homeless voters, voters with disabilities who can't use paper ballots, etc.

  5. "Judge blocks Trump’s elections order in lawsuit by vote-by-mail states Oregon and Washington"

    seattletimes.com/seattle-news/

The ruling blocked an executive order requiring documentary proof of citizenship and that all ballots must be received by Election Day.

"Oregon and Washington said they sued separately from other states because, as exclusively vote-by-mail states, they faced particular harms from the executive order"

This story has general info about deadlines and locations for returning completed ballots (both states automatically mail ballots to registered voters)

Personal note from me: If you live in Washington County, Oregon, please vote yes on the Libray levy! (Measure 34-345)

  7. Worried about whether your ballot was received? After you return your ballot you can track it in a couple different ways.

One way is to sign up for texts alerts (BallotTrax):

    washingtoncountyor.gov/electio

Or you can check the status at the "my vote" website:

    sos.oregon.gov/voting/Pages/my

  8. Hello to the folks who live in Washington County, Oregon 👋

I hope you all voted YES on the library levy! (measure 34-345)

    washingtoncountyor.gov/electio

Ballots must be either received or postmarked by Tues, Nov. 4. To make sure it gets there in time you can drop it off at an official drop box:

    washingtoncountyor.gov/electio

Lots of these drop boxes are located near libraries 😁

Please vote yes & support our county library system ❤️

  9. @Em0nM4stodon @ambiguous_yelp @CWilbur

If voting was completely useless then folks would not spend so much time and money on gerrymandering, voter suppression, trying to ban #VoteByMail (aka, #VoteAtHome), etc.

Also, more places are starting to use ranked choice voting. That will help make voting more powerful and encourage more people to vote.

  10. "Trump wants to end mail-in voting. Oregon Democrats say he can’t"

    opb.org/article/2025/08/18/vot

Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read said Trump “is clearly actively working to corrupt our elections.”

So ridiculous! Oregon has had #VoteAtHome aka #VoteByMail (ballots can be returned by mail or drop box) for more than 25 years!

  11. @faerye Hooray for vote by mail! And also for cats! 😁

I took our ballots to a drop box a few days ago. I just checked the status online and they're both there!

  12. "New bill proposes repealing vote-by-mail in Oregon, public invited to testify"

    koin.com/news/politics/new-bil

It looks like this bill would make in-person voting default and folks would need to request mail ballots. Our current system sends out all ballots by mail automatically.

There's a 48 hour window to submit a public comment:

    olis.oregonlegislature.gov/liz

I don't know how much support this bill has but I wrote comment opposing it just in case.

  13. From Democracy Docket:

"Trump Bid to Take Over Postal Service Could Threaten Mail Voting"

    democracydocket.com/analysis/t

“Taking over the Postal Service just kind of opens up a whole Pandora’s box of mischief,” said Barbara Smith Warner, the executive director of National Vote at Home Institute, a nonprofit which works to increase voters’ access to and confidence in mail voting.

  15. We voted! 🗳

I'll take our completed ballots to a drop box later today 😁

I always laugh when Obama says to get off the couch and vote because we voted while sitting on the couch! Here in Oregon we've voted at home for so long that I forget how many folks can't vote that way.

  16. @BlackAzizAnansi
I'm eagerly awaiting my ballot. Oregon has been a vote by mail state for more than 20 years (ballots are sent to all registered voters automatically). Ballots just started being mailed to voters today.

I think it's possible to vote in person, but hardly anyone does!

    #USpol #Oregon #VoteByMail #VoteAtHome

  17. @scalzi Thanks for the heads up! 😁

Oregon, an all vote by mail state (well, I guess it's possible to vote in person, but hardly anyone does!) has not yet started mailing out ballots. They will start mailing them on October 16.

I did get my voters' pamphlet, though!

My voting plan is to fill out my ballot at home and then return it via one of the nearby drop boxes 🗳

  18. @mckra1g
Hooray for voting by mail! 🎉

Oregon is a vote by mail state - all ballots automatically sent to registered voters, completed ballots returned by mail or at a drop box. But our ballots have not yet been sent out. I think they will get mailed after Oct 15, the last day to register to vote.

  19. I'm glad to hear the head of the American Postal Workers Union say that they are committed to the secure and timely delivery of ballots for the election!

But folks who are worried about possible mail delays can either mail their ballots early or else use one of the official drop boxes for ballots.

I usually use the drop box at my library. 🗳

  21. 🚨 Oregon voters 🚨

The last day to register to vote is Tuesday, October 15!

You can register, or check an existing registration, at the Oregon Secretary of State website:

    sos.oregon.gov/voting-election

Ballots are sent to all registered voters by mail and arrive 2-3 weeks before the election. The OPB voter's guide has more info (partial screenshot below):

  22. CW: US Pol - Accessability

    @hellomiakoda 💯 😁

Oregon has had vote at home (aka, vote by mail) for 20+ years. I usually return my completed ballot via drop box, not mail, so that's why I call it "vote at home"

My chronic illness => limited energy, being unpredictable, and cognitive issues. I'm not sure I could do the paperwork to request a ballot if I lived in a state that didn't automatically send ballots to registered voters.

    #VoteByMail #VoteAtHome #Accessibility

  23. @66gardeners @GottaLaff Yep! I love Oregon's vote by mail system where all registered voters are automatically sent a ballot - plus voters' guides! Completed ballots can be returned by mail or taken to a drop box.

Eight US states currently use this kind of system - California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Vermont, and Washington.

  24. 🚨 Hey, Oregonians - it's the last day to get your ballot in!

Ballots must either be postmarked by today (postage is free) or be taken to a drop box by 8 PM 🗳

  25. 🚨 Reminder:

Tomorrow is election day for Oregonians. Ballots must be taken to a drop box or postmarked by 8 PM Tuesday, May 21.

All registered voters should have received voters' pamphlets and ballots automatically (I love our vote by mail system ❤️) but here's your reminder in case you stashed them somewhere and forgot.

Local elections can have a big impact!

I spent the morning doing my research and voting at home 😁

  26. Edit - I fixed the date! Sorry for the error!

Reminder for Oregonians: Primary is Tuesday, May 21!

Registered voters *should* have already gotten a voter's pamphlet and ballot, but in case it got lost in the mail here's a reminder 😁
