Works as intended, I guess?
Man hätte die Banken halt dazu verdonnern sollen das nicht nur zu vergleichen, sondern bei Diskrepanzen den Empfängernamen anzuzeigen.
So mogeln sich halt die Banken raus, zeigen im Zweifelsfall an dass es nicht passt (weil $blubb es nicht unterstützt) und schieben dann die Schuld wieder dem Kunden in die Füße.
In den USA würdest du in solchen Fällen halt einfach auf "Senden" klicken und im Nachgang dann mit Hundewelpenblick beim Kundenservice aufzutauchen und es dir, bei Missbrauch, erstatten lassen.

Starting October 9th, European #banks will conduct a "Verification Of Payee" (#VOP), e.g. for #SEPA #MoneyTransfers between accounts: The name of the recipient that you type in must be the same as the name registered as the the target account holder.
The verification flow (p.23 of the document) shows an interesting twist, if the name you typed is not fully identical, but a "close match": you'll be notified.
Watching the respective info videos of banks, this is likely going to be a screen dialog: "Did you mean [registered name]?".
Probably a fringe case, but if you have "found" a nondescript IBAN that you suspect belongs to a specific person, you should be able to check that:
Trigger a pseudo money transfer to the IBAN you found, and slightly misspell the name of the suspected account holder. If your guess was right, the "Did you mean [registered name]?" dialog will pop up and confirm the bank account is that of the suspected person.

Empfängerüberprüfung bei #Überweisungen: Rechnungen für reibungslose Empfängerüberprüfung anpassen
„Bis zum 9. Oktober 2025 wird im europäischen Zahlungsverkehr eine neue gesetzliche Pflicht eingeführt: die Empfängerüberprüfung. Ziel des Gesetzes ist es, den Überweisungsverkehr noch sicherer zu machen und Überweisungen an eine falsche Empfängerin oder einen falschen Empfänger sowie mögliche Betrugsversuche zu verhindern. Künftig wird bei jeder Überweisung oder Echtzeitüberweisung in Euro der eingegebene Name der Zahlungsempfängerin oder des Zahlungsempfängers mit der zugehörigen IBAN abgeglichen. Ein abweichendes Ergebnis dieser Prüfung wird der Zahlerin oder dem Zahler angezeigt, die dann entscheiden können, ob die Überweisung dennoch ausgeführt werden soll.“

The day after Trump was re-elected, the main account posted that “the US Military is currently poisoning the skies of Western North Carolina after it has already destroyed this area with Weather Weapon Helene”.
The account claimed that “American children are dying from fentanyl pouring across the border, bioweapons jabbed in their arms, and the poisons being absorbed that come straight from the US military”, with the referenced “bioweapon” being the Covid-19 vaccine.
The account has repeatedly pointed to Trump’s role in producing the Covid-19 vaccine as a reason that he cannot be trusted.
Members of the group have now melded their claims about the hurricane – and plans to strike equipment they believe to be used for controlling the weather – with long-held beliefs that “directed energy weapons” and “stratospheric aerosol injections” or chemtrails are being wielded by the government against the American people.
