The remains of at least 38 people who died in 1943 were found in a grave near Kovel in Ukraine’s Volyn region during exhumation work. Some bore signs of mechanical trauma. The six-by-two-meter pit also contained rings, beads, buttons, crosses and small icons. Ukrainian and Polish specialists are examining the burial.

Police in Volyn region captured individuals who were involved in helping others to avoid military service by taking bribes of 3000 US dollars. Among the detainees were a deputy commander of a military unit and officials from local draft offices. They promised to remove the wanted status of conscripts who didn't show up for military service, allowing them to avoid conscription.
