  23. I finally opened up the #Voidfall Galactic Box that's been making a dent on my sofa for the past four months, and after literally a whole day spent just unpacking stuff & figuring out what goes in which boxes (there's a map - no, really!!) I have attempted to play it!

I'm used to complex games but I struggled with this one (I just played Mage Knight before this, so I'm clearly a glutton for punishment). There's a Rulebook, a Glossary book, an Icon leaflet, and a big Compendium. You're encouraged to play the Tutorial first, but the Set-up instructions for the game take up 16 pages in the Compendium and you have to separate out the Tutorial setup from the general setup instructions, which was a pain. Then once you've set it up, you go the Rulebook which tells you to read some pages there that describe the Rules of Play... but it's all presented in the same largely instructional manner as the setup in the Compendium, and that really didn't work for me. I can't just follow a list of instructions without context, I need to know WHY I'm doing something and what it'll achieve. Basically what this game badly needs is a Walkthrough centred on the Tutorial... .and so that's what I ended up writing.

It still needs some more work but it separates out the Tutorial Setup so you know exactly what to get out of the box & put on the table without having to wade through all the other unrelated instructions for the full game. Then it walks you through the First Cycle of the Solo Tutorial scenario, going over each card & what actions to take & why you'd play those. It's probably not a perfect strategy but it at least explains what you could be doing during the first Cycle (which I didn't even grasp from reading the rulebooks at all, I had to watch a playthrough video to understand what i was even trying to accomplish in the game). Hopefully that'll be enough to tackle the second Cycle (though there's a lot of extra parts in that which I'll probably have to go over too!) #boardgames

  28. Das Brettspiel #Voidfall ist auch mehr so:

"Oh, Mist.

  33. Done with #Voidfall.
It felt like everyone of us played a single player game of their own. Somehow disappointing. But I got the lowest points and lost the game. At least a little bit satisfying for the other three guys.
