August 16, New York Radio, 5520 kHz, 35443, clear station ID, three-keys tune, then sign-off.
August 16, WRMI, 5950 kHz, 45433, 03:10 UTC, "Cruisin’ the Decades", a program with one song per decade of the past 100 years.
August 16 and 23, HCJB, 6050 kHz, 35333 and 25432 / 03:15 and 04:05 UTC respectively, with rock music.
August 23, Radio Martí, 6030 kHz, 45433, 04:01 UTC with a "VoA Editorial" in Spanish.
August 23, 41 meter band, 04:19 to 04:29 UTC, an Italian calling CQ contest on 7153 kHz, and a Romanian doing the same on 7185 kHz. Probably the YO DX HF Contest 2026, hosted by Romania. It only runs from 12:00 UTC on Saturday to 11:59:59 UTC today (Sunday). Itallian and Romanian are probably the languages closest to each other in Europe, with the possible exception of Austrian, German, and Swiss German.

According to Ruslan Petrychka, head of the broadcaster’s Ukrainian Service and currently on "administrative leave", the service will be back at work this coming week, although the number of staff that will return appears to be unclear.
VoA Public Relations and the Ukrainian service’s web pages provide no info; Michael Abramowitz and former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer remain frozen in time.
VoA Ukrainian wasn’t on shortwave before Trump’s rampage. The best hope therefore seems to be a resumption of digital services, with uncertain prospects of accuracy:

The latest addition to my shortwave radio collection is a rare magazine from 1953, published in Serbian and originally distributed by the Information Service of the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade. Svet radia i televizije (World of Radio and Television) provides a fascinating look into the Cold War media landscape in the former Yugoslavia, and the U.S. presence in the region at that time.

VoA on Shortwave from Botswana, apparently for Tests
New HFCC registrations for USAGM Moepeng Hill effective from 22 May 2026 list English to Africa on Tuesdays and Fridays. As of 22 May, filler music was being broadcast for a short time, presumably for test purposes, indicating that Voice of America programmes in English for Africa may return very soon,
according to the BDXC’s radio news website. Most likely days, times and frequencies available there.

NASB Conference 2026 / “America@250: Due Diligence” on WRMI
The NASB, the U.S. National Association of Broadcasters, holds its annual meeting in Birmingham, Alabama, on May 28 and 29, 2026. Eike Bierwirth and Steve Herman will be among the speakers there. Bierwirth is scheduled to present his publicly available online databases of shortwave transmissions. Herman, Voice of America national reporter, is currently on an "excused absence" and/or among the VoA staff on "administrative leave" while the Trump administration continues its campaign to gain control over the country’s external broadcasters, including VoA.
Herman currently works as is now the Executive Director of the Jordan Center for Journalism Advocacy and Innovation at the University of Mississippi, and will "announce details of his organization’s new weekly podcast and radio program (including on shortwave)".
The program, "America@250: Due Diligence", is set to air June through December on more than 50 radio stations as part of the country’s semiquincentennial". Among thesebroadcasters is WRMI, where it can be heard on Saturdays at 16:00 UTC on 9395 kHz and on Sunday mornings at 00:00 UTC on 5050 kHz shortwave.

Canada and Finland on the Air, and other Shortwave News
Pop Shop Radio is scheduled to air on 3975 and 6160 kHz on Sunday, from 19:00 to 20:00 UTC.
Both Scandinavian Weekend Radio (6170/11690 kHz) and Realmix (5950 kHz) will be on the air on Saturday, from 21:00 UTC on Friday night to 21:00 UTC on Saturday night and from 06:00 UTC to 06:00 UTC to 21:00 UTC respectively. Realmix will also be on air on Sunday, at the same times as on Saturday.
A map especially for shortwave listeners is available online, based on data by Aoki and by Eibi (updated on April 2).
The latest edition of Takahito Akabayashi’s Shortwave Monthly is out, and U.S. foreign radio station Voice of America remains in the doldrums as the judicial process keeps dragging along.
