Context: Russian Liberation Army (ROA) led by general #Vlasov was a Russian collaborationist army formed by Germans on the occupied territories of USSR after 1941, around 125’000 Russians served there.[^1] They used the tricolor flag, similar to the modern Russian flag, which was banned in the Soviet Russia as Nazi.[^2]
The photo above is of course contemporary, but perfectly demonstrates the absurdity of modern Russian “patriotism” which mixes symbols used by competing and hostile regimes. Another popular such phenomenon is mixing Soviet and Orthodox symbols, which probably makes Stalin turn in his grave since Soviets were fiercely atheist and killed thousands of Orthodox priests.[^3]
