So I ordered more VL805 from #Aliexpress and those turned out to be exactly the same - fake chips that either do not work (do not get detected by Raspberry Pi 4B) or some of those were even shorted out of the box. Wow.
Also the marking on the fake ones gets washed away almost instantly with IPA.

actually today I seem to have discovered that a brand new blank VL805 actually gets automatically programmed upon a successful boot. We'll see.

Does anyone know a way to program a new blank VL805 chip on a Raspberry Pi 4? I have quite a few boards with those chips dead and have a bunch of new blank ICs.
They don’t seem to get programmed by themselves after being soldered onto a board so there’s got to be a way to do this.
