I'm just planning to use hookup a TV to a laptop just to stream movies & watch local/national news & tv programming. Not going to use the TV to actually do any work on the computer or to visit any website.

I tried hooking up my 15 yr old #Vivio 56" TV & my 5 yr old #Acer #laptop w/an #HDMI cable but I could not get them to connect. The TV has 5 HDMI inputs. I use them all & they all work. So, the problem was w/me &/or laptop. It either doesn't have the right features to be able to mirror the display on the TV or I didn't set the settings correctly.

I want to buy a new 60" (or larger) #SmartTV to replace the Vivio and another laptop just to link to it but, after doing some research there seem to be certain specs that each need to be able to work together.

Any specific suggestions for a combo that you KNOW will work would be appreciated. My budget would be between $5-10K for both.
