  10. @wravoc Yes. Your point about the work farm is apt. The cattle tagging and focus on bottom line are so typical of farming.

    It does not matter if all the laying hens have to be euthanised because of a flu scare because the loss is covered by something else (insurance) so the life of the livestock is discounted to zero.

    In Finland (because of slavish adherence to EU guidelines) you cannot even own a PET cow without having to have a massive EAR-TAG on the cow to IDENTIFY the cow. An artist who draws cow and calf pictures here brought back the heritage breed of Finnish cows from the brink of extinction with her personal herd of artists models and even though she said the tags detract from the aesthetics and they were identifiable by name she was told to tag them. She walked away from the project and I do not know if the breed has survived.

    Livestock is given vitamin and mineral supplements because they are valuable ALIVE, humans are told supplements make for expensive urine and are part of some propaganda promoted mythical supplement industry profiting off the gullible (big pharma sells most of the vitamins) but are worth more SICK. For example globally 80% of Vitamin-D3 is sold to the animal feed industry and humans and their doctors are typically unaware of the value.

  15. @kurtsh What is sufficient according to popular medical guidelines is adequate for holding off Rickets. This level is far below what is needed to gain optimal immune system function and gene expression. For this it seems that a level of 50ng/ml=125nmol/l is considered to the the minimum and only beach lifeguards and animal herders near the equator reach these levels. The rest of us would do well to supplement.

    I have collected a number of guidelines from published medical literature that you can look at if you like. Constructive critique is welcome.

Find a registered dietician you trust, and make sure that you aren’t deficient. Many of the worst cases of COVID early on had serum levels under 20 ng/ml of blood, which is clinically deficient.

  22. @goblin It is also a great opportunity to find a registered dietician you trust, and make sure that your grandparents don’t have a Vitamin D deficiency. A value between 40-50 ng/ml of blood is ideal.

    Meist in #Europa hergestellt aus dem Schweiß von Schafen (Wollwachs/Lanolin). Die Herstellung ist recht unkompliziert und mir ist kein Pestizidproblem bekannt. Auch die etwas aufwendigere Alternative in #vegan aus Flechten oder Algen sollten recht gut ohne Pestizide auskommen.

    Bei dem ergänzenden #VitaminK2 sieht es etwas anders aus. Der Rohstoff ist meist Geraniol/Farnesol (aus Rosen/Zitronengras mittels Synthese) oder Soja/Kichererbsen (Fermentation). Hier ist es nicht einfach ein pestizidfreies und regionales Mittel zu finden.

    Ich habe jetzt mal das probiert:
    frischnatto.de/
    Sieht sehr widerlich aus und riecht streng, ist aber recht neutral im Geschmack. (Gibt es auch als Kapseln)
    Fermentiert in Polen aus europäischen #bio Sojabohnen.
    Ich werde es wahrscheinlich nicht dauerhaft essen, da ich meine K2 Versorgung zumindestens teilweise über Sojajoghurt und Sauerkraut decken werde. Aber als Ergänzung finde ich es super.
