I haven't talked about this much, but one of my long-time goals is to build a team and goals that can survive if I get hit by a bus.
Long time sustainability!
We've already come through my cancer diagnosis, treatment, and full recovery.
But we can do even better.
If you'd like to spend a few hours a week or month to help our community here, let me know.
Ideally, I'd like to have most folks in our community spend about 1 hour per month helping out.

@wonderveilleuze @kristinHenry another reason for little activity on #infoplus2023 here is probably the current state of social media. there was a bit more activity on birdsite, but the alternatives to the fediverse (let's put it this way) do not interoperate and there is no easy way to follow what is being said across platforms. now thinking back to last week, maybe we could have had a #vissocial registration party (as a social activity). i assume many attendees would feel very welcome here…

Just want to inform folks of something our moderation team has been dealing with recently.
Currently, the issue is resolved, for us, for now.
A while ago, I received an email from a journal demanding that a thread posted by a member of our community be deleted immediately.

The rules for vis.social have changed to not allow any AI-generated images... but I'm literally writing an academic paper right now about AI applications to VIS (including ethical implications), and a rule like this prevents even sharing this kind of research. This seems like a pretty... abrupt and sweeping decision? @kristinHenry @darth_mall is there a place for public conversation on the server to discuss rule changes like this? #dataVis #visSocial #dataViz
