This idea that #parents know best is BS. Parents are not Drs or #virologists. They don't in fact know best and if they are ignoring the advice of trusted professionals, #science, and hurt their #kids by not getting them #vaccinated there is no mechanism to hold them responsible for their #neglect.

''#Virologists around the #world said they were flabbergasted by how poorly the #USA was tracking the situation. “You are surrounded by highly pathogenic viruses in the wild and in farm animals,” said Marion #Koopmans, head of virology at Erasmus Medical Center in the Netherlands. “If three months from now we are at the start of the pandemic, it is nobody’s surprise.”

H5N1 is an avian #influenza virus that causes respiratory disease in #birds & several land & sea #mammals. Recent #outbreak in #US, including infection of dairy #workers, has increased the concern around potential #transmission & spread. We asked #virologists, #epidemiologists, & public health experts what the most urgent questions and action points are at this stage of the outbreak.

Lovely Mastodon peeps! Do I know any virologists here?
(Or are there any who *don’t* know me yet, but would be up for chatting briefly? It’s background for a project, and I would be really grateful, and of course credit you.)
Thank you!

At the end of May, #NewYorkTimes reporter Emily Anthes accompanied #StJude #virologists on their yearly trek to #DelawareBay in #NewJersey to document their collection of #birdpoop. #Virologist Dr. Robert Webster, now St. Jude emeritus faculty, started going to the area in 1985. “Delaware Bay has turned into an influenza gold mine,” he says. “And we will continue to mine that gold mine until we’ve found the answers.” Follow their journey. http://bit.ly/3IVn1AA #FluResearch

The #H5N1 #fluvirus poses a great unknown threat to birds and humans. For decades, #StJude #virologists have been mining #DelawareBay each year to expand their knowledge and to help thwart possible #influenza outbreaks. Do any of my #MediMasto know if there's a vaccine for the #XBB 1.5 yet or whether the current #vaccines (#bivalent, etc) actually protect against it? There are so many opinions and I trust y'all more!
This article SEEMS to say #bivalent doesn't help against it much but it lessens the impact. Did I read that right?Signed,
A Worried Uber Driver@WFKARS, @Drneuro, & all the #Virologists and #epidemiologists I didn't tag cos I don't know about you yet.

Do #covid symptoms correlate to the strength of the line of an LFT? Mine do (sample size 2 so far!) However I've heard this from many other people over the years now. I also think there is a belief that a stronger line means stronger transmission.
Anyone know an actual answer to this? Need #Epidemiologists #Virologists and #Medical people.
