Sounds like Tech Commissioner #Virkkunen is trying to reassure critics in the #EU on #DSA + #DMA enforcement:
“I have been working all the time on these topics. But of course, people, they have very different personal styles, I think,” she told #Politico.
“It’s important to stay calm, even if there are different kinds of attacks against this legislation,... We are fully enforcing the rules all the time and everybody can be ensured on that.”
“Our rules are not part of trade negotiations.”

The only really encouraging remarks from Commissioner #Virkkunen in my opinion were:
1. Her clear commitment that European "values" (I assume she means #EU law) are not negotiable.
2. That she has not been in touch with #bigtech CEOs yet (and let herself be lobbied for weak enforcement) and instead referred to her legal teams as the ones who deal with the platforms.
I hope she's also not discussing #DSA investigations with other industry #lobbyists like #business associations.

Sounds like everyone agrees that "an open European search index would be nice" (hello @openwebsearcheu 👋) but of course the Commission's DMA enforcement official in the room cannot say anything about that; more EU funding for the #digitalcommons is a political decision which requires support by Commissioner #Virkkunen and the European Parliament's budget committee.

Martedì scorso c’è stata l’audizione della candidata per il portafoglio tecnologico della Commissione europea Henna #Virkkunen.
Visto il “fallimento” dell’insediamento di Intel in Germania sovvenzionato dal Chips Act, il parlamentare tedesco Arno #Bausemer ha chiesto “quale influenza eserciterà per garantire che la Germania sviluppi la propria industria dei chip attraverso le proprie aziende”.

Die Anhörung ist durch, ich auch. Insgesamt kam meiner Meinung nach nicht viel dabei rum. Ich habe mir vorher von #Virkkunen nicht unbedingt eine progressive Digitalrechtsaktivistin erwartet, sondern eine Person, die das Mantra "Competitiveness" der von der Leyen II Kommission verkörpert, und ich denke das hat die Anhörung heute bekräftigt.
Immerhin hat sie sich (anders als #Brunner) ein oder zwei Mal inhaltlich von rechtsaußen abgegrenzt, aber auch das hätte deutlicher sein können. Mal sehen. -

In ihrem designierten Titel stehen neben "Technologischer Souveränität" auch Sicherheit und Demokratie. Bisher habe ich von #Virkkunen aber nicht gehört was sie dagegen unternehmen will, dass systematische Diskriminierungen in der Gesellschaft durch Technologien wie „KI“ reproduziert & verstärkt werden. Dafür will sie Bürokratieabbau & gesetzliche Berichtspflichten abbauen. Hinter den schönen Begriffen stecken halt meistens doch eher die "Souveränität" und Sicherheit von manchen als von anderen.
