SAVAGES
Silence Yourself
2013 UK & U.S. pressingA little gasoline to fuel the fire of a Saturday night.
This was amongst my three or so favorite records of 2013, and it still sounds fucking amazing 13 years later.
One of the great debut albums ever; abrasive, noisy, #postpunk perfection from some of the most badass street-fighting bitches of all time.
It’s like an aural manifesto straight from the books of Wire, Gang Of Four, Siouxsie…
Conceptually, it’s even more relevant now as it was over a decade ago.
Live and experience through art, music and human emotion, and put your fucking phones down.
Live life.
Don’t filter it through your machines.And.. “DONT LET THE FUCKERS GET YOU DOWN!!!!”

CONCRETE BLONDE
Bloodletting
2017 U.S. reissueA beautiful, bright Saturday morning out there.
I needed to hear Johnette Napolitano’s voice this morning. This, Free, and Walking In London are all phenomenal records, and as soon as Bloodletting is over, I immediately need to listen to Walking In London.
They are two I cut my CB teeth on as a kid.“Joey” is the big recognizable jam here, but the whole album is great.
Not a happy record AT ALL.
It is essentially Johnette’s diary of her particularly bad relationship at the time, and even she herself says it’s a dark, self indulgent record to help deal with all the turmoil.
It’s very dark, but very sincere and honest.Besides… Peter Buck is on it!
Such an underrated band.

Released today 32 years ago:
🇬🇧 Erasure "I Say I Say I Say" – 1994
A polished and emotionally reflective synth-pop album that leans into slower tempos and more melancholic songwriting.
Andy Bell delivers one of his most vulnerable vocal performances, focusing on intimacy and emotional clarity rather than pure pop exuberance...#erasure #andybell #vinceclarke #90smusic #synthpop #electronicmusic #vinylcommunity #vinyl #music #vinylrecords #nowspinningonvinyl #nowspinning #nowlistening

Released today 38 years ago:
🇬🇧 Depeche Mode "Little 15" – 1988
Rather than relying on hooks or dramatic dynamics, the song unfolds with subtle tension and emotional distance. Dave Gahan delivers a controlled, almost detached vocal performance that perfectly complements the track’s cold beauty and lyrical ambiguity...

🇺🇸 The Gun Club "The Great Divide" – 1986
A dark and emotionally charged track where punk urgency collides with blues-rooted atmosphere. Jeffrey Lee Pierce delivers the vocals with raw intensity, balancing vulnerability and volatility in a way that became central to the band’s identity...

🇬🇧 Public Image Ltd "This Is Not a Love Song" – 1983
A deceptively catchy track built on elastic bass lines, sharp funk-influenced rhythms, and a cool atmosphere. Beneath its accessible groove lies a pointed commentary on commercial expectations and pop formula conventional. John Lydon delivers the lyrics with ironic distance and restrained tension..

FAT WHITE FAMILY
Serf’s Up!
2019 UK pressing
Gold vinylOh man.
Such a great band.
And in my head, this one is their true masterwork.Swaggering disco punk covered in grime and sugar. Incredibly groovy, and yet still rife with chaos.
“Tastes Good With The Money” is fucking incredible and is an absolute banger.
As is the opener “Feet”.The world needs another Fat White Family album.
However, if all we have is all we get, I’d be ok with that.Incredible records.

GNOOMES
Ax Ox
2023 UK pressing
Purple vinylA damn fine #electronic Kraut-ish record that leans further away from their earlier #psych records.
This is much colder, synthesized, and #shoegaze -y sounding; birthed from the band’s experiences with the pandemic, depression, mental illness, and being in Russia whilst dealing with the Ukraine invasion and its fallout.
It’s incredibly euphoric sounding. Perfect for “in transit” soundtrack and tense physical movement.
A great album, and one that I missed upon its initial release in 2023.
Highly recommended if you like Kraftwerk, Neu!, Stereolab, or latter-day Mogwai.

Random thought: has anyone ever released a
double LP for people with two turntables and a mixer, with sides 1 and 3 on one disc, and sides 2 and 4 on the other disc, so you can listen to all four sides in continuous progression? -
I just DO NOT understand what the big deal is with this Angine De Poitrine band.
The hype and internet worship is completely disproportionate to the actual music.
The costumes and tomfoolery are super gimmicky and beyond novelty, and MANY artists in the past have done the microtonal thing far more successfully.
I hear them, and all I get out it is a huge fucking headache.
I respect the musicianship.
But the music they make with their talents I will never be able to respect or take seriously.Maybe if I was 20 years old and on acid, I could enjoy them live.
But nah, man.
No thanks. If I want serious microtonal music I can listen to Penderecki or Harry Partch’s The World Of Harry Partch, and not have to look at assholes dressed in polka dot costumes.
Even King Gizzard would be better.#vinyl #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #vinylcollection #retro #vintage #art #music #analog #artrock #experimental

WEEN
White Pepper
2026 U.S. Ltd. Edition reissue
Green Pepper vinylThe SECOND of the two Ween reissue purchases today.
This is NOT cut at #45rpm like Quebec is, but it sounds phenomenal.I’ve owned a Plain Recordings reissue (yuck!) of this on white vinyl for a long time, and I was always disgusted by how it sounds.
THIS makes up for that time of agony.
Thank you, Rhino for finally delivering a great sounding press of this at a decent price.

WEEN
Quebec
2026 U.S. 2xLP reissue @ #45rpm
Magenta/Red (?) vinylFinally!
Picked up BOTH of the new Ween reissues today, but THIS is the one I’m most excited about.2 LPs cut at 45rpm, and I couldn’t be more pleased with how my SECOND favorite Ween album sounds.
Puzzling that it was hyped as being red and magenta colored, when CLEARLY one of them is a cream/off-white color.
It doesn’t really matter.I’ve wanted this magnum opus on vinyl for quite some time, and my copy sounds STELLAR on all four sides. I haven’t even sonic cleaned it yet!
Long live Boognish.

🇩🇰 City-X "Dansende drenge" – 1983
There’s still a trace of new wave tension in this punk release in the rhythms, but the core energy is distinctly punk and direct, urgent, and confrontational. The vocals push forward with attitude and nervous intensity, giving the songs a street-level immediacy...

THE DEAD MILKMEN
Big Lizard in My Backyard (40th Anniversary)
2026 U.S. reissue
Red vinylI literally shrieked with delight when I saw this in the shop today.
The Dead Milkmen’s first studio album, & the very first one I heard.
This was another band that I got into via one of my sister’s boyfriends in the late #80s .
He was quite obsessed with the band, & one summer, he was nice enough to make me a blank tape copy of this on side A, & Beelzebubba on side B.Short, hilarious songs rife with satire, and super scruffy in the best possible way.
You know, both of my sisters’ boyfriends in the 80s may have been shitty boyfriends, but they had excellent taste in music.
I learned of about 50 awesome bands from them collectively. My sister: “I’m breaking up with Matt.”
Me: “I beg you to reconsider.”
My sister: “No.”
Me: “Can you wait a few days after I can borrow some more tapes?”

🇨🇭 The Young Gods "Play Kurt Weill" – 1991
A striking reinterpretation of Kurt Weill’s material through the band’s dark, sample-driven aesthetic. Rather than treating the songs as reverent adaptations, The Young Gods reshape them with industrial textures, mechanical rhythms, and dramatic sonic tension...

SONS
Minus Seeds And Stems
1972 U.S. pressingOne of the coolest and rarest records in my library, and one that I don’t pull out that often.
Super obscure, it’s a self-released album by The Sons Of Champlin. They put it out themselves after two years of contractual conflict between them & their label.
Not a slick finished studio album by any means, but a stunning odds and ends kind of a recording.
Is it #jazz ? #Psych ? #Rock ?
Who knows. It’s a mix of live recordings, improvs, rehearsal recordings, psych-jazz freakouts, & more. Really killer sounding late #60s San Francisco Freeform jams with NASTY ASS GUITAR PLAYING.
Original copies like this became highly collectible because the record was privately pressed in very small numbers and was never widely distributed. It remained unavailable on CD for decades & developed a reputation as one hell of a strange artifact.

RICHARD BEIRACH
Eon
1975 U.S. pressingA stellar early evening slice of cool #jazz .
It would make sense that I really love this record, seeing that I’m a fan of Bill Evans. There’s some similarities here in the music, but BEIRACH stretches things out into a more atmospheric and pensive direction in some spots.
It’s far more romantic sounding and less in-your-face as some of Bill’s recordings. There’s a 12 minute version of Miles Davis’ “Nardis”, another piece that was long associated with Evans.
Here, it comes off very hypnotic.Eon is a very underrated album from that whole mid-#70s ECM period.
A perfect ‘unwinding in the early evening’ kind of record.#vinyl #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #vinylcollection #retro #vintage #art #music #analog #richardbeirach #eon #ecm #1970s #70smusic

THE TOURISTS
Reality Effect
1980 Canada pressingUnearthed this gem from my basement today!
Super awesome #80s #newwave / #indie rock that lead to Dave Stewart & Annie Lennox forming The Eurythmics after they disbanded.
The album opener “It Doesn’t Have To Be This Way” is killer. But it’s a bummer that they put their cover of “I Only Wanna Be With You” as track 2.
I can totally do without that song, but if you HAVE to put it on… put it near the end of the record. It just disrupts the awesome tone that the opening track sets. It’s completely unnecessary.
That song aside, the rest of the album is truly excellent.
It’s tighter, more polished, and way catchier than their previous self-titled effort.UK fans may notice the track listing and sequencing is different here.
That was the case for all North American issues, omitting two songs & changing the order.#vinyl #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #vinylcollection #retro #vintage #art #music #analog #1980s #80sMusic #synth

EDDIE RABBITT
Someone Could Lose A Heart Tonight
1985 Canada pressingYer old pal Ape has a DEEP love and affection for Eddie Rabbitt.
That love goes way back to when I was 4 or 5 years old. I always used to hear him on my uncles’ country and soft rock stations, and it made quite an impression over the years.
This compilation is incredible.
It has every Eddie banger you could ever want, including the schmaltzy (but wonderful) “You And I” duet with Crystal Gayle.
Country, rock, folk, ballads, the dude could do it all.
He even wrote “Kentucky Rain” for Elvis. It’s crazy listening to this, because it becomes very apparent just how many instantly recognizable hit songs he had.
Eddie died way too young from lung cancer at 56 years old.
I’ve always felt that he’s one of the most underrated songwriters of all time.
Just so many great tunes, man.#vinyl #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #vinylcollection #retro #vintage #art #music #analog #folk #country #eddierabbitt

PALE SAINTS
In Ribbons (30th Anniversary Re:Masters)
2023 Worldwide Remastered ReissueA masterpiece of the #shoegaze genre.
I have as much reverence for this as I do Ride’s Nowhere or Slowdive’s Souvlaki. This remaster is phenomenal sounding! Clearer and louder, but not in any off-putting way. It’s very tastefully done, and it sounds the best it’s ever sounded.
The odd time signatures on a few of the songs has always been its most endearing quality for me. The guitars are great (super trippy and psych sounding), but it’s those rhythmic structures that have always stood out most.
“Ordeal” is mind-bendingly heavy and massive, “Throwing Back The Apple” is jangly and pastoral, and “Thread Of Light” features a beautiful vocal Meriel Barham.
Their final, and what I think is their BEST record.
I know I’m in the minority there, but it is.#vinyl #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #vinylcollection #retro #vintage #art #music #1990s #90s #90smusic #palesaints #artrock #analog
