I fine-tuned the "Zorki."
I built a device to measure the lens's working distance and calibrated the lens and camera. Now, using a depth indicator, the results are more accurate.
The device consists of a macro helicoid into which the lens under test is screwed. On the other side, a matte glass plate is held in place by an adapter, and a 10x magnifying glass is attached. However, I replaced the magnifying glass with a digital camera with a telephoto lens so I wouldn’t have to run outside every time to look at distant antennas.I’m not sure that kind of precision is necessary here. The total average error of all the elements is already roughly within the standard anyway.

Сделал наконец простое устройство, чтобы измерять рабочий отрезок объектива. Оно состоит из геликоида для макро, переходника м42-м39, матового стекла и переходника на м42, который прижимает матовое стекло. Ещё там десятикратная лупа, чтоб смотреть на матовое стекло (но это не обязательно).
Где это нужно? Прежде всего в дальномерных аппаратах, где ты не смотришь через объектив, наводя резкость и не можешь быть точно уверен в резкости
В учебнике Майзенберга написана, на мой взгляд, странная рекомендация - но видимо она просто отражает реальность качества производства.
Майзенберг пишет, что ремонтируя фотоаппарат, нужно настроить камеру под конкретный объектив, подкладывая дистанцеры под фланец. Но объектив там изначально проектировался сменным, иначе многое вообще можно было бы сделать проще, как в камерах начиная с 1920х годов. Майзенберг пишет, что только если у вас несколько объективов, нужно сначала откалибровать одинаково все объективы, а потом уже и камеру. То есть, предполагалось что у владельца камеры только один объектив и больше он обычно не покупает. По этой же причине кожаные чехлы тех камер не вмещают сменные широкоугольники. А то и вовсе ничего не вмещают кроме тубусного складного Индустар-22.
В общем, объективы выпускали с некоторой долей неточности и камеры тоже. Напомню, стандарт Leica m39 это 28.8+-0.02мм. То есть и камера и объектив допускают отклонение только в 0.01мм.
Это примерно такая точность, которую уже сложно выставить, настраиваясь по матовому стеклу с лупой.А теперь к реальности.
У меня правда всего три объектива на этот стандарт, но только два из них (завода КМЗ, Москва) попадают в точность +-0.02 мм.
Новенький Индустар-61 (их ФЭД делал, Харьков), даёт отклонение в 0.08мм, что уже никуда не годится.
Вот меня и удивляет - что стоило проверять продукцию после изготовления и регулировать? Нет, делали плюс-минус километр... "И так сойдёт!", пусть мастер настраивает камеру тем, кому почему-то не нравится эта "невероятная мягкость советской оптики". И настраивает не всю систему почему-то, а по минимуму.
Расстраивает, что у советской техники (фото, электроники) был значительный потенциал, который убивался вот таким отношением, лишь бы план гнать да премии получать. Особенно это видно начиная с 70х, причём на Украине (ФЭД, Арсенал) это сильнее.
Повторю, Зоркий и ФЭД можно довести до идеала. Но это нужно умение и инструменты.
И оправдано это только странной любовью к этой технике.
Так-то лучше купить Praktica, Canon или Nikon, да посовременнее, и не связываться со всем этим барахлом, просто занимаясь искусством.

Phew. Finally finished it. Spent a ton of time tweaking it. The build quality was, to put it mildly, “not great” to begin with. Even though it’s from 1955—it’s not like it’s the ’70s or ’80s yet—it should have been decent...
But everything’s uneven—the pressure plate is warped, the film path is a bit crooked, and the case isn’t perfect either.
I had to bend things endlessly, reassemble it, and check it over and over. It turned into a lot, a lot of hassle.
Was it worth going to all that trouble over the “Zorkiy”? It wasn’t. But I have a personal “flaw”—I can’t leave something unrepaired.
As a result, I settled for a compromise—it’s acceptable, even if not perfect.By the way, if they were producing cameras like this today—given the current level of Chinese automated manufacturing—they could be made to be practically perfect. The thing is, it’s hardly worth going to all that trouble today with a focal-plane shutter.
Besides, there are excellent high-tech cameras that deliver superb results—whether digital or film. The Nikon F3 and later models, or the budget Canon SLRs from the early 2000s (300v, 7s, etc.). Or even take a Praktica—the results and quality are already quite predictable with those.
But—I went ahead and restored a Zorki-2S just for the fun of it. At the same time, I traced the evolution of design thinking in photography during the 1950s.

Пациент Зоркий-2С, 1955г.
А с этой камерой я порядком замаялся. И до сих пор пока её не настроил.
Вообще, Зоркий-4 и Зоркий-2 очень разные, хоть они и выпускались практически в одно и то же время (Зоркий-4 начали в 1956).
Зоркий-2с гораздо проще по устройству, но и гораздо менее технологичная камера. Её намного сложнее собирать и настраивать. Понятно, почему Зоркий-4 в СССР выпустили в количестве 2.6 миллионов штук - она была технологически очень совершенной, собиралась быстро и точно, регулировалась легко и ремонтируется тоже легко.
Зоркий-2с без специального инструмента даже не разберёшь. Дальномер регулируется трудно. Рабочий отрезок (flange distance) настраивать вообще боль.
Вот с этой настройкой я бьюсь уже два дня - и все ещё мимо. Дело в том, что нижняя правая сторона глубже верхней аж на 0.3мм. Это катастрофично для резкости. Причина - корпус камеры кривой. Прокладками это можно скомпенсировать, но при этом само кольцо, фланец, изгибается и Объектив в него закручивается туго, кольцо резкости перестаёт поворачиваться. При этом корпус у Зоркий-2 уже литой, жёсткий, выгибать его крайне трудно и приходится делать это наугад. Я никогда не знаю, смогу ли скомпенсировать прокладками результат последней рихтовки... Ставить, закручивать, проверять, снова откручивать, снимать, снова ставить - и это уже два дня...С другой стороны, весь мой опыт с "Зоркими" и "Киевами" негативно характеризует общее качество советских фотокамер. Где-то только процентов 10 камер имеют безукоризненное механическое качество. К моему большому сожалению, потому что мне глубоко симпатичен советский проект и его опыт, его наследие.

Getting festival ready. 🎪📷📸
Two cameras. Two types of film (plus an iPhone… and I may also take a Polaroid instant too).
The first is a Pentax 17 loaded with Kodak UltraMax 400. A colour film, forgiving exposure, ideal for daytime shooting. Being a half-frame camera, the Pentax 17 delivers twice as many shots from a roll (so I can go snap-happy).
The second is a Ricoh 500G (1972 rangefinder) loaded with CineStill 800T. Colour film, originally based on Kodak movie film, it’s designed for artificial light and really comes into its own as daylight fades. Perfect for stage lighting, fairground rides, neon signs and capturing the atmosphere of those long summer evenings (fingers crossed).

Он более компактный и смотрится интереснее, но Зоркий-4 заметно практичнее.
Однако, не все что практично должно нравится безусловно и однозначно. Так-то, практичнее Canon EOS в моем списке ничего нет.В сумке - пластиковая карточка с записями. Интересно, что это, для чего?

My recent posts of photos taken with the 100-year-old camera, i.e., the Kodak No. 2 Folding Autographic Brownie, have created a lot of interest and many questions. Thank you all for your interest; I wasn't expecting such a response!

Statt den Rest der Verwandtschaft auch noch mit Lungenpest zu infizierten, habe ich den zweiten #Weihnachten damit verbracht, an der frischen Luft die #NikkormatFT mitsamt des ach so schrecklichen #ZoomNikkor4386mmf35 zu testen.
