Bin gut in #Slowenien auf dem 25. #Weltententreffen angekommen. Ca. 700km in ca. 15h Reisezeit von Zürich aus. Habe u.a. den #Flüelapass, den #Reschenpass und das #Vinschgau mitgenommen. Auf der Abfahrt vom Flüelapass hat sogar leicht geschneit. Unten in Bozen musste ich mich dann umziehen und Sonnencreme auftragen, weil es viel zu warm war und die Sonne knallte. Dafür hatte es vorher auf der Alpennordseite teilweise noch in Strömen geschifft.

Wenig #Niederschlag, schmelzende #Gletscher und verschmutztes #Schmelzwasser gefährden den #Apfelanbau. Bewässerung wird zum Streitfall. Trotz Umstellung auf #Tröpfchenbewässerung bleibt Wasser vor allem in höheren Lagen knapp. Langfristige Lösungen sind gefragt.

#Mals 🇮🇹 at the end of the #Vinschgau line. Back in the days of steam, locos were turned here, enabling a “boiler forward” running in both directions. A “Gleisstern”, a five-pointed track polygon, was built for that purpose, instead of a turntable. Its remnants are still visible.

By train on the uppermost section of the #Vinschgau #Venosta 🇮🇹 railway, from Schluderns to Mals today. The line is about to be electrified: the catenary supports are already in place. The diesel railcars, which are currently operating here, will be replaced by electrical units.

By train to #Meran/Merano 🇮🇹 today. This is where the electrified line from #Bozen/Bolzano ends: passengers for the (still) dieselized section upstream through #Vinschgau/Venosta have to change trains. Scheduled connections are extremely tight, just three minutes, but they work.

In #Vinschgau #Venosta 🇮🇹 for a few days. Impressions from a “Waalweg” hike today, along traditional water supply channels, essential for the cultivation of fruit trees in the area.
There is, coincidentally 🤓, a railway line nearby, the Vinschgerbahn, providing hourly services. -
#Alpine #SoilFauna season ended with an astonishing #hike close to #glacier.
As bonus we hiked up to the Hohe Wart (Guardia Alta, 3424m), which is on the crest towards the #Similaun (3606m)

#Mals #Malles 🇮🇹 is the terminus station of the #Vinschgau #ValVenosta railway line from #Meran.
The line re-opened some 20 years ago, after having been closed down in 1990. Today, #Stadler #GTW diesel units sustain a dense timetable and electrification works are ongoing.
#Mals station café has some nice pre-1990 photos, taken along the line, on display. -
Today I was on fieldwork, but not for some #SoilBiodiversity things 😉
We checked the #alpine meteo station at 2400m in the #LTSERMatsch site, #Vinschgau (#SouthTyrol).
As you see: it was quite wintery up there, with snow and wind, and a little bit of sun 😎
