Gestern hab ich in #Villach den #Radweg aus der Hölle gefunden.

Plötzlich hört er auf und man steht mitten auf der Bundesstraße auf einer riesen Kreuzung. 🙈🫠

Ich weiß auch nicht warum in Österreich jedes Jahr so viele Radfahrer sterben. 🤷‍♂️

Some more impressions of today’s #Gailtalbahn 🇦🇹 ride on board an ex #ÖBB Class 5081 #Schienenbus. There’s an hourly S-Bahn service between #Villach and #Hermagor. Further up, there’s only some very occasional timber traffic. On a section of the line, you can also travel on a railbike.

Habe gerade das Hotelzimmer für den Kärntner Linuxtog 2026 [1] gebucht.

In der Buchungsbestätigung habe ich dann was über Klimaanlagen gelesen:

"Beachten Sie bitte außerdem, dass einige Zimmer mit Klimaanlage ausgestattet sind, für deren Nutzung ein Aufpreis von 6,50 EUR pro Tag berechnet wird. "

Naja, ich hoffe Ende Oktober gibt es keine Hitzewellen mehr.

With #Westbahn 🇦🇹 from #Villach to #Vienna along Lake #Wörthersee and over the #Koralm line earlier today. This is a 250 kph #Stadler #RABe501 unit, built and registered in Switzerland. It’s got a buffet counter, with snacks and drinks for purchase.
The same type of train operates for #SBB on the #Gotthard line, through the base-tunnel.

The #ÖBB #Nightjet from #Zurich🇨🇭HB to #Graz 🇦🇹 Hbf has reached its intermediate stop #Villach Hbf. The lovely sleeping car attendant has served a delicious breakfast to my cabin which I enjoyed before disembarking.

#Villach 🇦🇹 Hbf in June 1990. This is an #ÖBB #DiningCar in the consist of a Sunday evening peak time working for #Vienna. This #WRz type of diner was, at some point, rebuilt from a seat car. One could also see them on the Vienna to Venice #Gondoliere 🇮🇹 daytime Express in the 1970s and early 1980s.

Der Railjet ist natürlich längst weg und wir haben erst einmal Zeit für ein Abendessen in der Stadt

Der ICE ist nun zurück nach #BadGastein gefahren und die Ansage, wie es weitergehen soll, war so leise, dass man sie nicht verstanden hat.
Wir warten jetzt auf den verspäteten IC797 der #ÖBB um dann damit nach #Villach zu fahren. Er soll 17 Uhr am übervollen Bahnsteig 2 einfahren.

A photo taken near #Villach 🇦🇹, at dusk today. An #ÖBB Class 1163 electric is hauling a short mixed freight, northwards between Auen Abzw. junction and Warmbad Villach. These engines are mainly switchers, yet they can also be seen working mainline duties over short distances. The train is using the westernmost track. It, most likely, originated at Villach Süd marshalling yard.

With #Westbahn 🇦🇹 from #Vienna to #Villach this afternoon. This is a leased #Stadler #SMILE High Speed Train, like the ones in service for #SBB🇨🇭Gotthard Base Tunnel #Giruno workings from #Zurich or #Basel to #Lugano, #Milan and beyond. On the new-built #Koralmbahn line we reach a top speed of 250kph.

Going through the photos taken yesterday on board the #ÖBB 🇦🇹 #EuroCity #Transalpin to #Graz. Because of track works further north, the train is diverted via #Villach, an occasion to enjoy some “faux cab-ride” views from the last car of the consist, as we travel along the scenic #Tauernbahn line.

Von Villach geht es die ordentlich Wasser führende Gail entlang zur Bundesstrasse nach Arnoldstein. Dieser Grenzübergang ist mir noch aus der Zeit bekannt als er mehr war als ein paar verlassene Bars und Geschäfte, vor denen heute aus unerfindlichen Gründen alte Möbel verkauft werden. Hier war die Grenze zwischen Eierteigwaren und richtiger Pasta, zwischen “Parmesellokäse” und Parmesan am Stück und zwischen Filterkaffee und Espresso. Hier ist man vor dem EU-Beitritt Österreichs und vor Schengen stundenlang im Stau gestanden, im Gepäck Olivenöl, Baci, Parmesan und “ein wenig” mehr Barolo als beim Grenzübertritt eigentlich erlaubt.
