More creatures seen at Villa Borghese Gardens in Rome, Italy, on 21 Oct 2024. Spotted a Red Admiral (Vanessa atalanta), European Firebug (Pyrrhocoris apterus), Vestal (Rhodometra sacraria) and Flea Beetle (tribe Alticini). Some locals were curious about what we were looking at, so we showed them what we saw.

We next headed to the Villa Borghese Gardens in Rome, Italy, 21 Oct 2024. It is on a hill next to the Piazza del Popolo and is a popular spot for getting a view of the Vatican City and St. Peter's Basilica. While walking around the garden, we saw lots of busts, including those of Dante and Marco Polo.

Heute Sightseeing abseits des antiken Zentrum. Als erstes nehmen wir uns die Villa Borghese vor. Anders als der Name suggeriert ist das kein Haus sondern einer der grossen Parks der Stadt. Urspünglich ein Renaissancegarten, später zum englischen Landschaftsgarten umgestaltet (mit mediterraner Bepflanzung), zieht es an Tagen wie heute alle dorthin: die Läufer*innen, die Menschen mit Hund (ohne Leine, obwohl eigentlich Vorschrift, aber – vgl. gestern – mit den Vorschriften hat man es hier nicht so), ein paar Radfahrende und jede Menge Spaziergänger*innen. Touristisch erschlossen wird das weitläufige Gelände durch einen Verleih von Go-Karts, vor allem aber von zweispurigen, für 4 Personen […]
