After procrastinating a decision about which Kanban tool to use, I finally weighed all the available choices and landed on @vikunja

I think this was the first time that a software having their presence on Mastodon made part of my reasons to choose something. Another one is the integration with Home Assistant.

So far, so good. Haven't used it for more than a few minutes to create some fake tasks, but it's been nice. Now I need to figure out how to migrate from my old Kanboard.

Looks like #Pikapods has a new #Todoist alternative, #Vikunja. Have been wanting a self-hosted task manager for ages, might check it out.

Although I have moved a lot of my stuff off of Pikapods to my own VPS or home server, I still like being able to try things easily via Pikapods without the struggle of initial setup.

Which is also secured by #CrowdSec.

I ended up getting Vikunja installed locally and it will probably take the place of Planka, which has some weird proxy issue I can’t easily work around. Vikunja also has more features, some of which Planka was specifically lacking.

@dde Ich versuche auch von #todoist loszukommen und habe einen Blick auf #vikunja geworfen. Leider hat der iOS-Client keine offline-Fähigkeit und lädt bei jedem Aufruf aus dem Netz. Ist das unter Android besser?

I'm just wondering how you keep your containers up to date in an easy manner? You'd have to provide the container ID etc. everytime, which is super cumbersome with your approach.

Maybe this will motivate you a bit to split everything up, this is my workflow:

1. cd service-xyz e.g. #vikunja
2. edit version or if latest tag is used, skip
3. docker compose pull
4. docker compose up -d
5. Enjoy :)

Finally performed the update to #Vikunja 1.0.0-rc3, from 0.24.6.
Also enabled #Podman auto updates in the Quadlet. What could possibly go wrong.

@viharm Thanks, that's nice information. Same use case here. Need apps for linux, macOS, iOS, android (that is, /e/OS). Needs to be easy enough to use that the family actually bothers to use it for groceries and such. Preferably open source and self-host on the synology, but that's more of a bonus. First priority is that it just works right now. #Vikunja looks promising and I'll definitely look into hosting it myself. Did you try to host Vikunja? But #todoist appears to be the obvious out-of-the-box solution.

So I've been messing with #vikunja and the one significant glaring issue is that it doesn't support notifications properly, IMO. It supports sending off emails to notify you of things, but I'm not a fan of that since that clutters up my inbox and adds to the management steps.

So I found a python script that worked in connecting the API of Vikunja with ntfy.sh and I didn't know a lick of Python before I started but I learned my fair share today lol

Point of the post: My local Ollama instance with Qwen-Coder2.5 really helped me figure out what I wasn't seeing, and searching for the answer elsewhere wasn't giving me the examples I needed to see. So while #ai is risky when run by #bigtech, it's useful when applied appropriately.

I've been looking for a light-weight web-based task or project management solution for a while now. As one can imagine, there are plenty of available options, and I finally settled with Vikunja for a proper test-drive on my VPS.

Installation was straight-forward using the provided compose file setup to run with rootless podman on my Debian server:

One awkward twist: I needed to enable open registrations in order to set up my initial user for a few minutes, quickly disabling this setting again. I certainly do not want to run this as open service to the world - just as a single-user instance for myself.

Initial impressions of what I really like:

• hassle-free installation, using standard formats like OCI containers
• mobile-friendly response web UI that can easily be installed as PWA
• keyboard shortcuts for the web UI for all common interactions
• extensive documentation, including a config settings reference
• a friendly llama as icon :D

A strong contender for me was TaskWarrior since I had been using it in the past, and I do like the productive CLI interface with a task-server component for synchronisation. While there are plenty of tools and integrations, I was never satisfied with the available web options, though.

Решил все же вернуться обратно с #Vikunja на #Things3 из - за отсутствия уведомлений и невозможности настроить на iOS нормально синхронизирующийся календарь. issue есть на эту проблему, но ему уже лет 5 и наверное он никогда не исправится.

Self-hosted planner. Set up projects, create tasks, kanban, etc. Assign tasks to other people (for team use), set deadlines and repeating tasks, make child and parent tasks. Very nice, slick application.

Managed European hosting too, if you prefer.

In theory, I have almost everything I wanted to have self-hosted on my small server:
- #nextcloud for files, calendar, storing notes from #joplin
- #immich for photos
- #vikunja for my ToDo
- #pihole
- #paperless for digital copies of important documents
And these are my must-have.

I have few more things that are nice (like Jellyfin and few more) but it's for future.

However, I'm too scared to ditch cloud solutions, that I will lose my data because of my stupidity 😕

So, TickTick, which I love and use religiously to keep track of everything, has started limiting free users to one inserted image a day. Boo. I tried the free MS ToDo app again, but entering text is slow as molasses. I stumbled upon the self-hosted Vikunja which is quite lovely.

dlaczego? trudno o bardzo dobrą alternatywę, która miałaby te wszystkie funkcje, co własnie Todoist. Powtarzalne zadania - niby trywialne ale nie dla Zadań Nextcloud
