Ich hatte heute mal wieder die große Freude, den isländischen Pianisten Víkingur Ólafsson im Konzerthaus Berlin mit einem wunderbaren #Bach - #Beethoven - Bach - #Schubert - Beethoven - Programm zu hören. Ein Konzert mit diesem herausragenden Künstler ist die reine Freude.
Und er erhielt heute den Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik für seine Einspielung der Goldberg-Variationen von Bach. Zu recht.

As everyone knows, #VíkingurÓlafsson's #JSBach: Goldberg Variations was released today, but there were two other new releases today worth noting. #HaniaRani released her new album, Ghosts, and Frank Peter Zimmermann finally, finally, finally, released #Bach: Sonatas and Partitas, Vol. 2. Why there had to be two volumes, I don't know, but I have dozens of recordings of Bach's Sonatas and Partitas and Zimmermann is solid.

At the other end of the spectrum the Icelandic pianist #VíkingurÓlafsson has released his #Bach #GoldbergVariations and it's everything you could hope for as an interpretation of Bach on a modern piano. Beautifully varied touch, sprightly rhythms, cantabile melodic lines, sure and enlightening architecture. He just can't seem to do any wrong in the recording studio and his choice of repertoire.
