#Viki recently showed me on the homepage a #Kdrama named “Love on the Menu”. Yesterday, I chose to watch the first episode, and I noticed a couple of things. Scenes often change suddenly to a different concurrent thread. Characters act using some clichés. I also observed how light is used, especially in rooms, etc.

Finally, I checked the title on AsianWiki. There are ... 50 episodes! So, my main guess is that (without knowing) I’ve picked a Korean “soap opera”! It’s a new thing for me. 🤭

Yesterday, I started a new #Kdrama on #Viki. The choice was hard; being a recent Viki user, there are a lot of things to watch!
After minutes of searching, I decided to start #MyDearestNemesis. I liked the first episode. And the game playing at the beginning, the one with real characters, was too funny! 😂

Yesterday, I started watching #MoonInTheDay on #Viki. It’s a fantasy #Kdrama that mixes the present day and the ancient period, in a complex revenge plot. I liked the first two episodes.

Ep 8 offers us a bad translation for gender, given that the woman in the picture doesn't have a daughter, just 2 sons, and an unfortunate lexical choice for "confondere" (=to confuse).

And I can now confirm that MIL and DIL from my previous toot have a friendly and informal relationship, therefore "mom" is correct.

Posso confermare che la coppia nuora-suocera, di cui ho parlato sopra, ha un rapporto informale particolare, quindi nessun errore di traduzione per "mamma", in quel caso.

It’s cutting out the volunteer teams completely that’s the key issue. Viki management doesn’t seem to understand that the quality of translations is their key competitive advantage over other platforms. (Like you, I rewatch shows on Viki to get the better translations.)

One can potentially understand that Viki may wish to get shows posted faster with AI translations taking a first pass, but now the quality control is effectively gone. If you see ‘Viki team’ for the translations, this means it’s exclusively done by AI.

Volunteers have confirmed on other social media that even the option of having the volunteer teams clean-up and rework first pass AI translations and add notes is now effectively shut down. Viki is no longer assigning teams to new dramas and isn’t taking on new volunteers.

More, even when volunteers have been assisting earlier this year, Viki has been limiting translations to a single line of text and disallowing the parenthetical cultural notes. You’ll notice that on newer dramas.

That said, Viki’s English translations, however made, still beat Mango and others like Bilibili or officially licensed YouTube channels. Mango rather infamously has been translating the official title of a character in *Royal Betrothal* as ‘ear-pimp’ — Viki has used ‘Envoy of Customs’.

I am in a conundrum though.

I've always watched Viki shows in English, as Italian subtitles weren't always available and I have too much French in my life already.

Lately Italian subtitles are immediately available for new shows, but I kept the settings in English because their quality is poor.

So, shall I complain about errors even if it means no Italian subs anymore?

Yesterday I started another #Kdrama because I know that Spooky In Love will not keep me busy all the weekdays (only Sat/Sun).

I chose #ToMyBelovedThief on #Viki. The first episode is nice, but a bit confusing with so many characters, and I still have to learn their relationships.

By the way, one of the OST songs in this drama is the beautiful “Stealing Love” sung by the super good Choi Eun Bin (최은빈).

Yesterday, besides Love Your Enemy, I also watched the first episode of the #Kdrama #TheMidnightRomanceInHagwon on #Viki. I liked it, even if some moments were a little boring, since the first episode is very introductory.

I also learned about the term “hagwon” (학원), which refers to a type of for-profit private school in South Korea.

I just discovered that “The Midnight Romance in Hagwon” is also on #Viki (and with Italian subtitles). So, I’ll watch it here! 😉

LTNS o Long Time No Sex (Im Dae-hyung y Jeon Go-woon, 2025) tiene solo 6 episodios y toca temas un poco más adultos que la serie surcoreana promedio. Una pareja inmersa en la rutina y con la libido por los suelos encuentra una forma de reavivar la llama de la convivencia (pero no tanto del sexo) por medio de una arriesgada estrategia de extorsión… eventualmente todo les explota en la cara.

Por cierto, Esom y Ahn Jae-hong (protagonistas de la serie) trabajaron con la directora Jeon Go-woon en Microhabitat, una película de 2017 a la que (de acuerdo a mi registro) le puse cuatro estrellas.

Yesterday, I started #LoveYourEnemy on #Viki because I liked to see Jung Yu-Mi again. I discovered this pretty actress in The School Nurse Files, a drama that is rather bizarre and even a bit disgusting.
LYE, on the other hand, looks more like a “conventional” #Kdrama. I liked the first episode, so I guess I’ll appreciate this drama.

P.S. “Yu-Mi” is a super cute 🥰 female name.
