#2 Behind the Scenes Making of Resident Evil (1996) – It has been over thirty years since Resident Evil was first released and today it has grown into a multimedia entertainment franchise still driven by video game productions. Although many video game publications published a lot of articles about the original game from 1996, none of them captured the behind-the-scenes making at Capcom which the YouTube video below features. Even if you are not a Resident Evil fan, I still encourage you to watch it as you can learn a lot about the process, the hard work done by the Japanese and insight shared by Shinji Mikami.

#4 Austria Fought Back Against Islam – Massive immigration that includes Islamists who are obsessed with conquering new nations is very clearly dangerous and even toxic. With so many illegal aliens/immigrants and Muslims in Europe, it is clear that the future of the Europeans is looking more uncertain as time passes. Among them is Austria which boldly made changes to prioritize its own people and preserve its rich culture by pushing back hard against Islamists. #5 The Fall of BuzzFeed – Remember how popular BuzzFeed was? Even though a lot of people got lured by them, I never trusted BuzzFeed and I was never interested with their videos and other online gimmicks. BuzzFeed was also a very questionable participant in journalism no matter what they did to gain credibility. Fortunately for the world, BuzzFeed collapsed and deservedly so. #6 Record-breaking Rainfall Hits Chiba Prefecture in Japan – Apart from being vulnerable to earthquakes which is connected with being located within the Pacific Ring of Fire, Japan also has its share of struggles with immense rainfall and flooding. Recently, record-breaking rainfall hit Chiba Prefecture causing a lot of flood and hardship for the Japanese. #7 Role-playing Games About 1990s Anime – Believe it or not, there are indeed role-playing games (RPGs) based on anime properties that were popular in the 1990s. Of course, a lot of those anime-based RPGs were released only in Japan and some of them became playable with English translations through digital patches, emulation and fan-made translations. #8 Assorted Pacific Rim Reaction Videos – When Pacific Rim was released in cinemas worldwide in 2013, I never bothered to watch it in the local cinema. Here in the Philippines, there was a lot of pre-release buzz that Manila would appear in the movie and so many local film buffs got excited. The movie eventually grossed over $400 million worldwide through theaters and a lot of people enjoyed its high-quality visuals, intense battles and the special attention to detail invested on the size and scale of the locations. #9 Ranting for Vengeance Slams Video Essay Slop on YouTube – It is not a secret that YouTube is filled not only with artificial intelligence (AI) slop but also video essays made by individuals who arrogantly think of themselves as experts and wise creators. #10 Shallow Focus is a Disease in Movies – There is a new trend that has influence the production of movies in Hollywood (AKA Commiewood) for many years now and it has literally become a disease which made the viewing of movies undesirable. The disease is shallow focus which occurs when the area of sharpness in front of a camera lens is very narrow which results in blurry backgrounds. Shallow focus is being abused in modern-day filmmaking and it is only getting worse. It's been a while since I wrote an #introduction for folks who are #NewHere.

I'm a #queer #Catholic computational #linguist who works on #NaturalLanguageGeneration and lives in #Scotland. Fuck yeah, here’s one of the original youtube video essayists (back in the day he pioneered the genre together with a small bunch of other formerly Channel Awesome-affiliated folks like Dan Olson/Folding Ideas, Leon Thomas and Lindsay Ellis) reminding us what a video essay can still aspire to be. I’ve often had kind of a hard time with Kyle Kallgren’s essays in recent years, not because he hadn’t worthy things to communicate but rather because he’s grown a tendency to go way overboard with the goofy bits, something he’s not that good at to begin with and a bit of a tired cliché (of youtubers aspiring to be seen as goddamn filmmakers or actors or comedians) i can only take in moderation these days. It’s exactly why i can’t ever make it through, say, a Patrick Willems video (that, plus a number of pretty shallow-to-genuinely-bad, middle-of-the-road takes that had me tune out at some point). I’m actually kinda glad the Channel Awesome-informed days when half-assed comedy bits were deemed mandatory are long gone.

This newest Kallgren video is pure brilliance though. Don’t be too alarmed by that whole youtube standard “Top 20 List” schtick, which is indeed just another satirical bit he thankfully tones down fairly quick to act as more of a springboard for a deeper discussion and commentary on issues regarding the culture we’re fed by the Hollywood- and comic book industrial complex. Give it a spin. It’s worth your time and attention in an era when things worth your time and attention have become kinda hard to find in youtube culture criticism.

Asking for help from #nudist / #naturist s or those who support #normalizeNudity without wanting to use a label for themselves:

For a while I've been wanting to do a video about "the 'isms of nudism," like #ableism , #classism , racism, etc, as frequently happens in regards to nudism resorts and other nudist spaces. But rather than just talk out of my ass for this one, I want to actually research and prepare some stats ahead of time, and try to make it into more of a planned-out "video essay" instead of just a vlog.

So I could really use help from anyone who wants to in finding out/researching stuff like:
- how many nudist resorts are currently actively available for use
- average price for nudist resort memberships
- average distance from habitation, cost of renting a cabin, etc
- difficulty in accessing nudist resorts--transportation, lack of disability access (like the swamp you have to hike through to get from the parking lot to the water at Rooster Rock clothing optional beach in Oregon 😡 )
- cases of racism, homophobia, transphobia, anti-tattoo, anti-piercing, etc behavior at nudist resorts--news stories, or personal experiences
- challenges of joining a nudist resort if you're a single male, or other cases of being denied entry over being gay, childless, etc
- non-landed (no dedicated space) nudist gatherings, how many there are, how they find participants, how often and where they meet, cost of events, etc
- any other considerations I'm not thinking of at the moment that prevent access to nudist spaces for most of us who aren't independently wealthy and/or retired so we can afford it, have a car in good working order and the money for transportation, food, membership and cabin rentals, and/or who don't fit the "family friendly" expectation of straight white cis that many nudist resorts expect, implicitly or explicitly

While I was raised nudist myself, I've rejected the label for years now and prefer to say I just support normalizing full body nudity (but not shaming those who prefer to stay clothed), for a lot of reasons that I detail in my video "why I stopped calling myself a nudist" https://www.toplesstopics.org/nomorenudism/

But I still have a ton of nudists/naturalists who follow me and post on my content, and others who are "interested in nudism but don't know how to start." The video essay wouldn't be anti-nudist exactly, but is intended to point out the many limitations to finding places to be nonsexually naked without getting in trouble or judged that those raised with privilege can be unaware of. I'm a big fan of watching #videoEssays and there are so many wonderful ones out there, but I haven't really tried something so in-depth before, and I could use the help making sure this one is well researched. The costs & labor involved to make #VideoEssays for #YouTube is why I'll never become a Video Essayist, especially given how YouTube/Google keeps screwing over creators with their algorithms.

Besides, #Podcats have very good solid functions that can be supplemented with textual & visual materials.
