"White people have come to see victimhood as a kind of currency — something you can accumulate, trade, and spend politically. When people of color gained traction by naming real structural harm, the response wasn’t repentance, it was appropriation. Scholars call this “victimhood discourse.” In “The Plausible Deniability Playbook,” sociologists show how white-victim claims circulate online to legitimize grievance under the veneer of free speech and cancel culture. A Journal of Experimental Social Psychology study found dominant-group members more likely to claim “digressive victimhood”: responding to accusations of bias by framing themselves as the real victims. Victimhood becomes moral capital, politicking fuel, and a way to block critique.

People with #trauma, especially from being targeted by groups they can stereotype, can sometimes be driven to victimize others based on that trauma. This can be seen with #JKRowling's aggression towards everyone with a Y-Chromosome, and specific targeting of Trans people: she was traumatized by someone with a Y chromosome in a women's space, so her trauma drives her to fight anyone she relates with that.
I was reading that some #Israeli math books alter the plus sign to avoid looking like a cross, a symbol associated with an undesirable-group, and thinking about the trauma #Jews who fled there may have from #Christians, it made me wonder... What if what the #IsraeliGovernment does, especially the targeting of Christians (#Palestinians, #Bethlehem, etc) is a response to the generational trauma of #antisemitism / #victimization during the #holocaust and for centuries before?

The core underlying principle of all successful fascist ideologies has been that of self-#victimization
Nazi Germany rose out of defeat in war, high inflation and conspiracy theories.
Precisely as now, one party seeks power telling those who feel they have the losing end of a stick that it’s not their own fault, but (choose your minority) and ”marxism” is causing all their problems.
Likewise it tells then how perfect and beautiful they are when they hate.

It's impossible to overstate the degree to which many big #tech CEOs and venture capitalists are being #radicalized by living within their own cultural and social #bubble.
Their level of #paranoia and contrived self-#victimization is off the charts, and is getting worse now that they increasingly only consume #media that they have funded, created by their own acolytes.
In a way, it's sort of like a "VC Qanon", and it colors almost everything that some of the most powerful people in the tech industry see and do — and not just in their companies or work, but in culture, politics and society overall.
We're already seeing more and more irrational, #extremist #decision-making that can only be understood through this lens, because on its own their choices seem increasingly unfathomable.
