Ursula K. LeGuin's "Earthsea" cycle is an excellent thing to re-read in your early 40ies, to see how different and still the same it feels in the middle of your life instead of the first quarter.
And this particular edition - hard to hold in your hands, impossible to carry with you, but containing quiet a few extra texts - is something I definitely recommend, too.

"The land outlasts the empires. The conquerors may leave desert where there was forest and meadow, but the rain will fall, the rivers will run to the sea."

It's cool enough to be able to spend Sunday morning on the couch with a tea and a book (the book is amazing and mind-changing, so I'm super slow at reading it since there is so much information to process and so much of mt own thinking and conceptualising to change...).

Because this week *vaguely points towards work and heat*, I had to cancel the regular call I have with a friend to catch up on life and our reading adventures.
But it did not stop my brain thinking about the things I want to tell her about the books I read. And in doing so, I realised that a major aspect why Ioved "A desolation called empire" so much is how well it portrays reverse culture shock. So important, so rarely and so well adressed.

I didn't read Ursula Whitcher's (@yarntheory, though it seems not active here anymore...) "North Continent Ribbon" on purpose on May 1, but you totally should - it's the right book for the day.
I bought the book because the blur reminded me of Angelica Gorodischer; the bookseller said that it reminded him of Ann Leckie. We were both right, to a point. But the book is even more.

Today morning is off to a strange start - I looked up Marcin Wicha, in the hope to read that he has written another book & found out that he died last year 😢
So: here one of my favorite books of reading year 2022.
"Things I Didn't Throw Out" is a meditation about memory, childhood, surviving wars & what comes after. For everyone whose family history consits of anecdotes and deep unspoken holes in between and who can and wants to still laugh about the anecdotes.
