"The essence of the so-called capitalist world or the communist world, is not an evil volition to subject their people by the power of indoctrination or the power of finance; but simply the natural ambition of any organization to plan all its actions."

  11. @rythur and that same ubiquitous inequality is likely a factor in rising violent crime, hate-groups, populism, pandemics, terrorism, road/air rage, mushrooming police budgets, even the attacks on libraries.

But just slap a Band-Aid on all that and you'll be fine…

#viablesystemmodel says of you don't provide for a requirement (a variation) someone else will. Organized crime, fascists and warlords, for example.

  12. @theregister I'm thinking of this as a #cybernetics affair. The #CCP is a big fan of #ViableSystemModel (#VSM) - a good fit for a #totalitarian worldview. Using #AI for conserving #propaganda means appears to be challenging, as indications of overworked employees suggest.

    hm, unklar.

  14. Received new #Creatingtheconditionsforchange booklets ready for next workshops. Using a case study from my work we explore why a service hadn’t been able to improve & what was exposed using the #Creatingtheconditionsforchange approach, which is developed from the #viablesystemmodel

  15. I’m looking forward to delivering a lecture on the #viablesystemmodel at #Bayes Business School next month. I love it because the students there are so vibrant and forward thinking. They really lift me up. I love being around their energy.

  16. @systemspractitioner I'm not working in these fields but I'm interested, so I'm going to answer anyway. 😀

In my opinion, systems thinking is also about improving existing systems (e.g. the #ViableSystemModel as a debugging tool for systems). Systems thinking can uncover the impact of the environment on the system, thus showing that no matter how hard a system is trying to improve, it might still be sabotaged by the environment.

I think the (Self-)Improvement industry often does not want us to know that our ability to self-improve is limited or even sabotaged by the environment (#capitalism).
E.g. a person in danger of poverty will have difficulties improving their artistic expression.

So the conflict is between the profit interests of the self-improvement industry and the privatization of "personal issues" on the one side and a systems perspective on the other side. I hope that makes any sense to you.

  17. System 3* in the #viablesystemmodel is not the same as performance metrics. It is a monitoring system that gives a sense check of your performance metrics. I also use it heavily in evaluation and in my #creatingtheconditionsforchange approach to #change and #systemschange

  18. I started using the #viablesystemmodel for my own development back in 2011. It has become a staple in my #systemspractice ever since
