Geburtstag des romantischen Dichters und Komponisten begibt sich Helga Heyder-Späth auf eine musikalische Spurensuche. E. T. A. war nicht nur ein begnadeter Literat, sondern auch ein inspirierter Komponist. Diese unbekanntere Seite nimmt Helga Heyder-Späth aus Anlass seines 250. Geburtstags in den Blick.
Vesper – Vom Höchsten und Heiligsten
‘Die Ahnung des Höchsten und Heiligsten, der geistigen Macht, die den Lebensfunken in der ganzen Natur entzündet, spricht sich hörbar aus im Ton, und so wird Musik, Gesang, der Ausdruck der höchsten Fülle des Daseins – Schöpferlob!’. Das schreibt Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann in seinem Artikel über ‘Alte und neue Kirchenmusik’. Und er betont darin ausdrücklich, dass sich nur Komponisten diesem Genre widmen sollten, die ‘von wahrer Andacht begeistert’ sind. Ihnen empfiehlt er, sich dabei am Vorbild der Alten Meister zu orientieren, allen voran Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. Aber auch Komponisten wie Leonardo Leo, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart und Georg Friedrich Händel schätzt er sehr. Dessen ‘Messias’ hält er sogar für ‘das Oratorium aller Oratorien’. Am 24. Januar 1776 wurde Hoffmann geboren. Zu seinem 250. Geburtstag nimmt die erste Vesper-Stunde seine Leidenschaft für die Kirchenmusik in den Blick – auch in Kompositionen von Hoffmann selbst.

I’m convinced it’s either a gang of “fans” hating on films for sport (thank you gamergate for all you brought to 2025)Or the fact that people can’t sit through a non-franchise action movie anymore

Story is the key. Whether it’s a practical effect budget or a cgi oneI was very impressed with #Vesper which apparently had a $6 M budget — the same as #StarWars in 1976?!
Amazing looking understated storytelling, mix of cgi and practical
Might have gotten fewer hater reviews if it hadn’t been in English so the yahoos who couldn’t read subtitles would have weeded themselves out
If it’d come out in the 1960s–20s it’d be a #Scifi classic

Muy original y rompedor el imaginario de #vesper, una cinta postapocalíptica desde luego diferente, rara rara. Me recuerda a "The road", aunque esta menos profunda psicológicamente y más metida en la #cienciaficcion. Aunque casi lo mejor diría que es su cuidada fotografía, una auténtica belleza.
No me dejará poso, pero desde luego es una propuesta original.

Yeah... last night I tried to watch Vesper. I tolerated it about half-way through the movie. What I saw was competent, but not gripping.
What killed that movie for me, however...
... was the bloody mumbly dialogue. I'm surprised I tolerated it that long. Why can't people enunciate clearly anymore???
"But people mumble in real life!"
The occasional mumble wouldn't be an issue, but when a character's baseline is "mumble mumble mumble," this is a huge problem.
Consider movies to be like theater. Nobody IRL yells their murderous thoughts at an audience, while pretending that 5 feet from them, their intended victim cannot hear them.
In the movies, the baseline should be normal enunciation, even if your moping teenager prays at the altar of Mumblarg The One Who Shall Be Mumbled. (Probably *mumbles* at the altar.)
After giving up on Vesper, I switched to Northern Exposure, and OMG the difference! I could hear *almost* every single line. What a difference!
It's no wonder I want to watch old shows. Basic production values have gone down the drain.
"Oh, look at our amazing CGI!"
Yes, but if I cannot hear your dialogue, the CGI is wasted.

I saw two good #films on netflix in the last few days.
#Annihilation is best described as #scifi #horror. it's thought provoking and leaves you a lot to think about. Alien invasion or perhaps it's all a metaphor for cancer...
#Vesper is a beautifully produced, atmospheric and well-acted post-apocalyptic story. The plot felt derivative, though.
Both feature interesting mutations, and a touch of gore.
