Bill Frisell—Vernon Reid - Smash & Scatteration

This is one of those "I can't believe this happened" albums.

But it did happen, and it happened in the mid-80s.

And you know what that means: drum machines on a lot of the (worst) tracks. Lots of guitar synths.

Overall, quite experimental and a mix of good and bad, tipped towards good. (But the bad is NOT good.)

That #LivingColour Tiny Desk Concert has me on a bit of a #VernonReid kick, so exploring some of his collabs this morning, both familiar and new to me.

Feel free to mute this thread, I'll keep it ongoing today as I listen.

First up was Yohimbe Brothers, Front End Lifter (2002).

YB was a collab b/w DJ Logic and Reid from 2002. I played this a lot in the early '00s but haven't revisited in probably 10 years (at least!). I feel like Logic has sort of faded from view these days but he did a lot during this period to translate the art of turntablism into a variety of settings.
