**Banning isn't safety. It's losing visibility.** The #UAE 's new resolution setting a minimum age of 15 for #socialmedia use is well-intentioned, but as someone who's spent over a decade investigating online abuse, #fraud, and digital threats, I have to flag a critical flaw: outright bans don't remove risk, they remove oversight. When a platform is fully off-limits, a determined child doesn't disappear — they go around it. Fake birthdates, #VPN s, borrowed parental identities. The result isn't a safer child. It's the same child, now invisible to any age-aware safety system, with zero content filtering and zero mechanism restrictions (no screen-time caps, no algorithmic guardrails, no DM protections). Here's the part that doesn't add up: this resolution already requires platforms to implement "accurate and reliable age #verification mechanisms" to enforce the ban. That means the verification infrastructure — the hard, expensive part — has to exist either way. So why use it to lock kids out entirely, instead of using it to give them a properly restricted, age-appropriate experience? We already have a working model. #Instagram 's Teen Accounts and #TikTok 's under-18 protections don't ban younger users — they #verify age and then restrict what that age group can do: limited DMs, screen-time defaults, no late-night notifications, curated content. That's harm reduction, not prohibition. And it keeps the child visible to the system designed to protect them. Understanding the Occupy Democrats Post on Facebook about the Kennedy Center – Perplexity & DrWeb
Editor’s Note: I had been following the Facebook group called “Occupy Democrats,” for some time. A post today in my timeline was surprising. I did read it. It on point in many ways, but feels over the top, dramatized, inflamatory? Not a slam on the group; I was (my bad) unaware of it’s background (duh). So I asked Perplexity to bring me up-to-speed, and this is the analysis of their post on the Kennedy Center. It notes their ofter post unsigned material, cited sources. I am not opposed to left wing groups; nor opposed to progressive Democrats. I know how these posts have a “slant” and strong POV. That’s what free speech is all about. This is your regular reminder to make and check your backups.
I run weekly verification of my backups, and this week brought a surprise: some of my honeymoon photos were silently corrupted. When the disk tried to read the data and failed, SMART triggered an alert for Uncorrectable Sectors, but if I hadn't been verifying, it never would have tried to read that data.
I have a second local copy and an offsite copy. Hard disk was 6.6 yrs old, but only 16TB written (used for archiving), 2386TB read (weekly verification).

The bottomline rule is this: Never ever trust anyone asking you to #verify or reset your keys and/or passwords. Ask first if you really need to confirm.
Yes, even if it is coming from what appears to be a legitimate email domain name because it can be spoofed!
Absolutely no one will ever ask you to verify your account in the #Fediverse network. It is not part of the experience. Sure, there were third-party services who did this a few years back during the Twitter Migration 2.0 but those were primarily targeted to well-established accounts from Twitter (and usually journalists), not to random people. Not you. Not me. And was definitely not in a spammy way.
Always remember, if you are not sure, just ask. There is nothing wrong with asking. If people laughed at you or ridiculed you for asking about a "simple" or "common sense" thing, block them (maybe one day you'll have the last laugh too).
You know what "askx means?
