#WritersCoffeeClub 11 Aug—When were you last a student?
Still am - I am currently taking evening classes for #Italian .
Part of my motivation is to learn more about the connections of #Venice to #mining as background research for my future book on the ultraterrestrial #Venetians from German #folklore .
(And if anyone knows of some useful books on this topic, I would greatly appreciate it!)

Venetian refugees
Following the Lombard invasion in 568-569, and the subsequent conquest of Byzantine Venetia, mostly in the first half of the 600s, a part of the Venetian population of the mainland cities fled or left for the settlements in the nearby lagoons.
The lagoons were, by the late 600s, the only part of ancient Venetia, which remained under Byzantine rule.

#ScribesAndMakers 18/2: Do you have multiple creative outlets? Are they distractions, or do they work synergistically?
I wouldn't call them _distractions_ as each is important to me. But they _do_ compete for my limited amount of free time.
Beyond translating German folk tales, I also play and run #ttrpg . This hobby is clearly synergistic - both are oral storytelling traditions with a lot of overlap, and people who are interested in fantasy role-playing games also tend to be interested in folklore.
I am also trying to learn #Italian . Here the synergy is more of a long-term thing, but I do hope it pays off when I write that book on Ultraterrestrial #Venetians from German #folklore .

I can't recall if I've shared this here before, but in October of last year, I visited the Museum of Glass in Tacoma and took this video of Dale Chihuly's glass bridge on the approach to the Museum. Still amazing after 20 years! #glass #glassart #glassblowing #chihuly #dalechihuly #tacoma #museumofglass #glassbridge #venetians #studioglass
