Stars and Stripes is a venerable institution. Last night I watched the film ‘The last time I saw Paris’ (1954, includes a young Elizabeth Taylor, Roger Moore, & gorgeous costumes) which begins with scenes of jubilant victory celebrations at the liberation of Paris, strangers kissing each other in the street & so on - and I recognised Stars and Stripes in more than one scene.
