#Cannonical is trying to do a #VendorLockin situation with snaps, whereby they become the gatekeeper to your software.
Juxtapose that with #flatpak, which is designed from the get go to be repo agnostic. Sure, you need the #FreeDesktop runtimes for most flatpak repos, but it isn't actually a hard dependency.

Microsoft hat der Deutschen Telekom gerade den CSP-Indirect-Distributor-Status entzogen. Stichtag 20. Mai. Brack/Alltron in der Schweiz: schon raus. KOMSA in Deutschland: auch raus. Telekom: jetzt auch.
Parallel, gleiches Muster bei anderen Vendoren:
🔻 **Broadcom/VMware**: alle Partnerverträge 2024 gekündigt, nur ausgewählte zurückgelassen. Margen historisch halbiert. Wer Pinnacle-Status behalten wollte, hat ihn mit erheblichen Zugeständnissen erkauft.
🔻 **Veeam**: reduziert das VCSP-Programm gerade massiv. Aggregatoren und Service-Provider verlieren ihre Rental-Lizenzen – inklusive global agierender Lizenzhäuser und etablierter DACH-Player.
Drei verschiedene Auslöser (Distributor-Schwelle / PE-Übernahme / IPO-Vorbereitung), dieselbe Mechanik: Der Vendor sitzt am längeren Hebel. „Partnerschaft" ist kein Status, sondern ein Privileg, das jederzeit entzogen oder neu verhandelt werden kann.
Die populäre Antwort darauf – „lasst uns Partner als Block bündeln, dann haben wir mehr Verhandlungsmasse" – kollektiviert das Abhängigkeitsproblem, statt es zu lösen. Größer-werden gegen einen Hersteller, der schneller größer wird, ist keine Strategie. Symptom-Behandlung. Kein Architektur-Fix.
Was wirklich trägt: Vendor-agnostisches Tooling, Distributoren mit echter Vendor-Neutralität, Migrations-Runbooks bevor die Mail kommt, und FOSS-Alternativen ernsthaft pilotieren – Proxmox, Nextcloud, Nakivo sind 2026 belastbar genug.
Wer keine Alternative kennt, kann nicht verhandeln.

Everyone wants to attach themselves to the next big wave and present themselves as the answer.
Real organizational readiness is not about pushing AI into every layer because the current panic cycle says so. The practical test for any change is much simpler:
• Does it strengthen existing tools and workflows?
• Does it preserve model and vendor optionality?
• Does it reduce backlog and repetitive operational drag?
• Does it reduce attack surface by removing software, access, and exposure you do not need?
• Does it reinforce the boring fundamentals like inventory, patching, least privilege, segmentation, and recovery?Without those checks, you are mostly just trading places. One dependency gets swapped for another. One vendor stack gets replaced by another. One kind of complexity becomes another. Very little materially improves.
Most of the time, we just kick the ball a few months further down the road and call it progress.

Product Warning: do *not* buy #ebikes with #bosch motors/controllers. they are locked-down by some #evil #proprietary shit and try to #vendorlockin you into their shitty products. the motors are good, but the apps, the navigation, are horrible, and #interoperability with devices and apps of other vendors is actively hindered.

Im übrigen bauen #US Konzerne gerade den nächsten großen #vendorlockin in der #eu auf. Überall werden #softwareengineering Prozesse auf #codingagents umgestellt. Ein Schritt der für der Wettbewerbsfähigkeit unerlässlich ist. Eine europäische Alternative sucht man jedoch vergeblich. Heißt jeder setzt auf #Bigtech. Man stellt sich nur mal vor, wir bauen Software um unabhängig zu werden. Aber die #software verstehen können wir nur durch die #USA

@AwetTesfaiesus das sieht für,mich aus, als hätten da Google, oder LinkedIn ihre Finger im Spiel.
Klickt man nämlich in deren App auf einen Link, wird der nicht im Gerätebrowser geöffnet, sondern im App-Internen.
Und natürlich klebt der nochmal die eigene Werbung überall hin, wo sie keinen Sinn macht.
Inzwischen gibt es auch keine Möglichkeit mehr in den Einstellungen, der App zu sagen, sie soll Links im Standard-Browser öffnen. Klassisches #VendorLockIn und #enshitifcation .

Open source reduces this risk because open standards and interoperability bring back freedom of choice: in operation, service providers and further development.

Vendor Lock-in zeigt sich selten am ersten Tag, sondern dann, wenn sich Bedingungen ändern: Preise steigen, Funktionen verschwinden, Lizenzmodelle kippen oder Produkte abgekündigt werden. Plötzlich wird Migration zum Zwang.
Open Source senkt dieses Risiko, weil offene Standards und Interoperabilität Wahlfreiheit zurückbringen: beim Betrieb, bei Dienstleistern und bei der Weiterentwicklung.

I urge all developers of #Android apps to NOT pre-emptively obey the new terms of #Google requiring you to sign up for the Android Developer Console.
It looks like Google is attempting a power grab and wants to prevent ALL installations of Android apps without official Google approval; even those installed outside Google Play.
This is an attack on both developer and user freedom and unacceptable.
